After the mid point in the NFLEL season, Clausen has yet to play a down. After an almost perfect preseason, Clausen was reassigned by the league to Amsterdam... the only problem was that Amsterdam already had two established quarterbacks. Gibran Hamden and Kurt Kittner.
Remember Hamden? He was Spurrier's pet project a few years ago in Washington. Kittner started for the Atlanta Falcons a few seasons ago too. Both are trying to renew their NFL careers. However, Clausen is just trying to jump start his.
Anyways, Hamben broke his collarbone during the week 4 game, so Clausen moved up to the 2nd team. Its pretty much common knowledge that NFLEL teams play a 2 quarterback system.... I mean the league is pretty much set up as a developmental league for the NFL. I was for sure that Clausen would see some action during week 5.
???
However, he did not play. Kittner went the whole way... passing for 283 yards on 21-of-40 passing. But don't get too down. Kittner also threw 3 interceptions. The final one very costly. With the Admirals down 20-16 in the final minute, Kittner drove them down to the Berlin 6-yard line. On third and 4 at the 6-yard line, Kittner threw to his right, straight into the arms of Berlin defensive back Jermaine Mays on the goal line and he sprinted 100-yards to wrap up the game, 27-16. Kittner finished with a qb rating of 52.4
Kittner was picked off 3 times
Maybe next week is Clausen's time to shine?
Week 6 Sunday May 8 Amsterdam Admirals vs Frankfurt Galaxy 1:00pm DirecTV
