He got NFL looks. He played a few preseason games with the Chiefs. He wasn't much of an NFL prospect because of his arm.

He said a "long look". Are you saying that a few weeks in preseason is a long look? Also, it helps if the coaching staff's reaction to taking a look doesn't result in the conclusion that he looks really bad.

Lots of guys get cut sooner than that. I'd say the fact that he made it as far as he did with an arm that obviously wasn't going to cut it says something for him. If he'd had an Erik Ainge type arm he'd have stuck around longer.

The idea that he wasn't good enough to beat the elite teams is a little silly in my opinion. His final two years he simply didn't have a run game.

you can make that same argument for andy kelly, peyton manning, heath shuler, and tee martin.

It's harder to look good when you have no running game, a trademark weak OL, a terrible offensive coordinator, and a converted QB and DB as your only decent receivers. However, Clausen still had one of the best passing seasons in school history with that crew.
