Tomato Head customer killed after car crashes into businesses

Yes, just got the memo. Customer killed. So sad.

A customer was killed while paying her bill at a local restaurant after a car driving through the parking lot crashed into two businesses.

Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a one-vehicle crash at 7240 Kingston Pike, a West Knoxville shopping center that is home to the Tomato Head and Chili's, among other businesses.

According to the preliminary investigation, a Chrysler 300 driving through the parking lot left the roadway, went airborne over a concrete wall and then crashed into two businesses.

The first business the car entered was the Tomato Head Restaurant. The car came to rest in Wild Birds Unlimited.

A female customer at the Tomato Head was paying her bill at the checkout and was struck by the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at University of Tennessee Medical Center.

The male driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Several other customers in the Tomato Head received minor injuries in the wreck.

Police are still investigating the incident.

Usually when a car drives into a store its kind of funny because some dummy thought they were in reverse but had it in drive and hit the gas. Not so funny when some one is injured or killed. That's horrible.

The woman who was killed was the mother of a friend of mine from middle school and high school days. She was an absolutely wonderful woman who raised fantastic children and cared for many more during her years in the classroom. Such a tragic loss.

Stories like these creep me out because they're so bizarre and rare. It's like "man dies when a telephone pole falls on him while he's walking his dog", or "man dies after being impaled by falling jetliner parts". It's like there was something more involved than just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, like fate or God or something. My sister told me about this story tonight and shortly after we were both in agreement that these sort of events are not just tragic but also strange.

I just saw the report here on the news, she was the principal of Bledsoe Middle School.

Prayers for her family, friends, and students.

Terrible that someone lost their life. I would really like to know what this driver was doing/thinking that caused them to go airborne.
