Rivals and Scout has us at #1. 247 has us at #2. ESPN at #3. I know we are bound to get at least another few top commits... Maybe no more 5 stars but a few 4 stars...

How likely is it we stay on top and at least finish top 3 by NSD?

We will have to pull a couple 5* if we are going to finish in the top 3 IMO.

5th-8th is where I think we end up. If we got Blair, Jackson, Hendrix, and Barnett all on board, top 5 is not out of the question.

We won't finish in the top 3. If we get some of the guys we're in on, I'd say we finish in the 6-8 range.

Yeah, our star rating is a lot lower than some of the others in the top ten. We've got more recruits than most right now which is why we've been so high. We should end up top ten for sure.

No matter our ranking, I'd rather have our class of 30 than another class of 20 any day and twice on Sunday.

It isn't really. We are 6th in star rating on rivals. .01 behind UGA and .04 behind A&M and LSU. We may end up with 4 stars the rest of the way.

I think we can finish top 3 if we can pull Adoree, or another surprise 5*, but if we finish without him and with the players everyone is thinking, top 6-10. OR maybe some of our current commits get a bump to 5* during this season, which is totally feasible, then we may make it.

1 - UT - 24 commits, 3.46 average
2 - Bama - 18 commits, 3.56 average
6 - ND - 17 commits, 3.65 average
7 - UGA - 17 commits, 3.47 average

It's lower than 3 teams. UGA by .01, Bama by .1 and ND by .19

I wouldn't say it is a LOT lower. Also, Rivals only counts top 20 recruits so teams will still have a hard time topping us. The difference in finishing 8th and finishing 3rd is 5 star players, at least in the Rivals formula, IMO.

Currently, UT has 12 4*, 11 3* and 1 2*. I think in the end will will have something like this....

1 5*
15 4*
14 3*

That is comparable to Michigan's 2013 class which signed 1 5*, 16 4* and 9 3*. That class was good enough for 5th nationally.

Bama has 5 kids raked 6.0 per rivals. I fully expect 3 of those to get the bulls*** "Bama 5* bump". If not all of them.

Another nugget: Last year, 9 teams had more than 10 4* commits. Their final rankings? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12.

UT currently has 12 4* and have 6 or 7 more spots to fill.

Plus we may have some bumps coming. Lambert is rated higher on 247 & Scout so maybe he gets a bump from 5.7 to 5.8. Hurd to 5* and maybe 1 more. I'd think Henderson could also possibly get a bump from 5.7 to 5.8 and even Paulk may have an outside chance. (Of course it's possible a couple guys have some risk of going the other way so time will tell).

Personally, I don't think Hurd gets that 5th star. I know a lot of people will not like to hear that, but I just don't see it happening. He committed early, plays in TN, didn't camp and has been the highest rated 4* for months. Just my two cents.

ESPN should be completely ignored due to them not rating JUCO players. As for the others I see between 5-10 if we grab the guys we think we will get. If we get a surprise like a Clifton Garrett or an Adoree Jackson, then I would say top 3

According to his thread, I believe Hurd and his family are hearing they will get the 5* bump on the next update. We will see.

I don't see UT at the top on NSD. But, I do believe they will remain very high in the rankings.

I think Hurd will get the bump. Also, the Vols should benefit from the addition of 2+ more 4*s, a bump of one or more 3* commits and potentially some positive movement for UT recruits in the Rivals Top 250.

Come Feb., my projection is that the Vols will have one or two 5* and fourteen or more 4*s and Butch will be talking to ESPN about their Top 5 class.

Butch Jones has it under control. I see his plan and its working to perfection. Here is how I see it. We've offered lots of three star guys that we will gladly take their verbal from, we show strength and momentum by numbers, then once the highly rated 4 and 5 star guys take notice of the crazy momentum we have they become more interested in UT. When they get ready to commit, we will start to notice some of the 3 star players having a change of heart (asked to look elsewhere). Our star rating will continue to get better the longer this goes on, so YES, in my opinion there is a chance we end up ranked #1. Yep, that sounds about right.

For the record, I could care less about player rankings. I trust Butch Jones to get the job done regardless of where we finish in recruiting as long as its a top 15 or so. As far as I'm concerned , ranked anywhere from 1-3 is about equal, 4-10 are about equal and 10-15 are about the same. JMO

Look at who we are likely to get from here on out...Mosley, Barnett, Hendrix, Berry1, Berry2, Mclisse...

These guys commit and that's a full 30 recruit class. Add these guys to our current class (and assuming every else stays committed) I think we finish around 7th. And I am okay with it. I know we, as Vol fans, demand a lot... but compared to what we've had for the last few years a top 10 recruiting class full of 4* guys with a coach that gets it...we are looking pretty.

Remember, Urban Meyer (who runs a similar scheme at CBJ if you ask me) took a losing record OSU team and went undefeated in his first year. Who knows what will happen in 2013!

Great point. I believe it is very pessimistic to call it below top 5 atp. I just don't see how.

I really would at least count 5*'s in this comparison. In which case there were 13 teams last year with more than 10 4* or better commits and they were all ranked 1 - 13 on rivals.

1. AL 17
2. OHST 18
3. ND 18
4. FL 16
5. MI 17
6. LSU 17
7. OM 12
8. UCLA 17
9. AU 11
10. FSU 11
11. A&M 15
12. UGA 16
13. USC 12

Adding 6 or 7 as you suggest would be pretty much in line with those guys last year and it would be awesome if a couple turned out to be 5*'s.
