I think Donovan coached them very well at the time. The problem now is, as we've all said many times, no big men. Part of that is his fault, surely.

I'm not sure what he coached, but that group didn't need it. Two plus defenders who did so of their own volition, two great rebounders and two great shooters with a decent decision maker at PG. The Xs and Os didn't matter as they were far and away the best team on the floor every time they played, especially the second year.

That said, he can also be "blamed" for having the crew there in the first place.

Billy D was lucky in the sense that Buzz Peterson was here...If we have any coach besides Peterson, Corey Brewer and Lee Humphrey are both Vols. Those 2 guys were HUGE for there run at 2 NC's. No way a guy like Pearl lets them get away, he would have sold Humphrey the way he sold McBee. Can you imagine if we would have had Lofton and Humphrey drillin 3's with Juwan Smith running the pt and Brewer at the 4 sometimes 3....Billy D was very lucky to not have Brucie here
