Can we all now agree that the timing of the firing doesn't matter?

Our team sucks and is not nearly as talented as we thought.

We have the talent. It was just so underutilized this season. Given the right coach (one that designs game plans around talent and mismatches), Team 121 would have never lost 8 games this season.

Having said that, tonight's game is not a good example though. Nobody played with fire in their eyes tonight. It looked like most players were trying to avoid getting hurt.

I disagree....firing him last year would have mad a difference....so timing does matter. We waited entirely to long.

I'll ask you, too: would you really have enjoyed a Dave Hart hire? Because that's what you would have gotten if Jones was fired last year. Use some damn common sense.

If it was done sooner maybe 8 loses could be avoided. And maybe better record would be a little more appealing to coaches.

If done sooner - would have still had the same interim and could have easily had 9 or 10 losses instead of 8.

It is not like a new coaching staff was going to be brought in mid year - because that was NOT going to happen.

Nope would not have. What would have made the difference was a new AD installed in time to help with assistant hires and other things the program needed.

Well hell, let's fire the next coach before he's hired a maybe we'll go undefeated next year.

And you all who think you can predict the outcome based on what ifs are just being stupid.

No one could have predicted the injuries that lead to starting a true freshman QB. No one could have predicted the injuries that devastated the OL.

FSU could not overcome the loss of a QB and they have what most of you consider a very good coach.

It is not going to matter at all who the next HC is if whomever that is does not get control over the injuries that have plagued this team.

Better yet - let the new coach stay until he loses - then fire him and name an interim - then when that interim loses - fire the interim - then when that interim loses - fire him ... when you run out of coaches - take a poll and let all the great coaches here on VN call the plays. Then when they lose - just fire everyone and cancel the football program.

And I do agree that if the rationale behind the firing with 2 games left was to get a head start on everyone else - well that doesn't matter and never did.

It didn’t matter in terms of W/L record. I don’t think anyone expected Hoke to come in and win out. They needed to make a move to let the fans know that his performance was unnacceptable. Can you imagine if they hadn’t fired him yet and Butch was still the coach right now? The stadium would have been half empty tonight.

If you KNOW you’re gonna do it, it makes more sense to do it sooner than later.

It wasn't Butch's firing that was ill timed, it was his hiring ... which never should have happened at all ! Time to move on !
