Can the Vols win the SEC East in 2016

So what happens if the Vols don't win the East next year? Everything still just peachy and we're all supposed to just be happy that the Vols play football 13 times a year?

Bill, I think it's hard to assess our proper response to the speculation of not winning the East next year. There are many variables between a championship season, a winning season, a competitive season, and a season underperformed.

UT should win the east in 2016---fla will be losing a ton of talent on D and they have treon harris again--he's terrible. GA will not be that good with their QB issues. UT v. Alabama---SEC title game!!

Depends on injuries both during spring practice and the 2016 season. IF we can stay relatively healthy and the OL can show more progress then we've got just as good a chance at it as FL and GA. Improvement in the passing game could overcome either of the above.

This season has demonstrated that with the top teams, a hand full of plays determine the outcome. Most of those plays didn't go our way in these games this season but no reason they can't go our way in 2016!

It's amazing that we've never played bubba in the title game after they've been going on since 1992. The biggest reason is because we couldn't get over Florida enough times in the 90's. Beating Bama twice in one year would be awesome, however I think we'd probably have a better shot at winning the SEC if we lost to them during the season and surprise them in the championship game.

You can eliminate USC, Vandy, and Kentucky as non-factors. That leaves Georgia and Florida. That shouldn't be that hard a hill to climb. Jones will be in his fourth year and have a roster loaded with good recruiting classes. The old "we are young" excuse won't wash.

UT has a rough four week stretch of games with UF, at UGA, at A&M, and Bama all back to back. UGA and UF have much better schedules IMO to win the east. We should know for sure how good this team is after that four week stretch though.

The Vols certainly can win the East in 2016. One ESPN writer said Florida winning it this year was "like being the tallest third grader." I don't see that changing in 2016.

There is no evidence that Georgia, Mizzou, Kentucky, South Carolina, or Vandy will be any better than they are today. And Florida's vulnerability continues to emerge as big chunks of their super-talented '12 and '13 signing classes depart for the NFL, only to be replaced by less-talented '15 and '16 signees.

Meanwhile, our ultra-talented '14 and '15 signing classes will be juniors and sophomores, growing into their best years. We'll have a good crop behind them with the emerging '16 class, but many of those guys will have the luxury of red shirting, a luxury we hadn't seen a lot of lately.

So yep, we absolutely should be in contention for the East. We will have our shot at being "the tallest third grader" for a change.

I'd agree about Georgia if Richt stays as head coach. Otherwise, you underrate them at your peril. Georgia's roster is as loaded as LSU, Auburn, or Florida, and not that far behind Bama. If they get a coach worth a damn, they'll be dangerous.

If we beat Florida and Georgia I don't see how we couldn't. If we can somehow become more explosive on offense and our defense stays solid, I don't see how we won't be a top 5 team in '16

Top 5 in what?

It wasn't our offense that blew double digit leads. Florida got 4 or 5 4th down conversions - had that not occurred, we'd be in Atlanta.

Unless Jones learns from the mistakes this year which it seems he hasn't I say no. Coaching scared will cost us 1 or two we shouldn't let get away and we will be looking at woulda shoulda coulda!

Expectations will probably be through the roof in 2016 and one has to wonder if the Vols can finally overcome Florida and win the east next year?
The Vols should be very expierienced and have decent depth having faced the competition they did this year.

Team 120 will attempt to answer this question come Saturday @ Georgia
Go Vols
