Let's face it, the Vols are trying everything under the sun to shore up a Dline that has been decimated by injuries, even going so far as trying offensive linemen on the Dline.

Can the Vols slow down Kentucky's running game enough, however, is the better question?

I'm afraid Bob Shoop doesn't have much left to work with, considering all the injuries, but we'll see come Saturday.

It's not really CAN but WILL they. I firmly believe the d will step up Sat. Just hope KY don't do like the last few teams and play away from Barnett. jmo

Sure they can. Didn't you see how awesome they were against TTU <blue font>

easiest way to negate their running game is for our offense to build a lead, taking it away.

defensively, i'm assuming we're going to give up yards and some plays. but if our offense can posses the ball, not turn it over and generate 1st downs and build a little bit of a lead, it will take that away. our defense doesn't have to be dominant. they just need to be able to get a few stops early....

if we start out with 3 and outs, penalties and give the ball away....that won't help our defense, and will play in to what KY will likely want to do offensively....

UK can run the football. They have two good backs and a solid line. They control the clock too.

Offense will have a lot of pressure on them because of it IMO

You have to figure that Shoop will load the box and bring run blitzes to shut down Kentucky's ground game which will leave at least one of our CB's matched up 1 on 1 outside. If Cam Sutton gets back that won't be a problem. If not its Mosley or Martin or Buchanan so pick your poison and hope the KY QB has a bad day.

This. And that. The matchup against their RBs have concerned me for a couple of weeks now. Yes, it's still Kentucky and all that but they do have a couple of nice RBs. Our front will be tested.

No, we won't. Hopefully we'll get 2-3 turnovers from them which stalls their drives. But there's absolutely nothing I've seen from our defense to make me think we can stop their run game. Fortunately, I also believe we'll run up and down the field, rushing and passing, all day long and win in a relatively high scoring game.

simple answer is NO. We really haven't proven that we can stop anyone's offense this season for a whole game. UK will move the ball on us. If we can put together consecutive plays and force them to 3rd and longs, we're good. If we can't, we are in trouble. The bigger question is how will our offense look? If the offense plays like we all know they should, then it won't matter, because UK can't stop our offense. We should be able to run all over them. If they get behind and are forced to throw the ball, LOOK OUT for the pass rush. OUR PASS RUSH IS OUR DEFENSE!
