Good evening all, I am posting this thread in hopes of getting some help. I am wanting to purchase my wife a new camera for christmas, wanting to get a "SLR" model either the Cannon Rebel or a Nikon. If anyone knows the pro's and con's of these please let me know. Also if you have any advice as to where would be the best option to purchase that would be great as well. Wanting to keep it under a grand. Thanks in advance.

If you're talking low-level SLR's, Canon > Nikon 8 days out of the week.

CMOS >>>>>>> CCD

Just make sure to get the Rebel XT, not the XTI. The XTI has too high of a megapixel rating for the size of that camera. It will produce too much noise.

If you're looking for a really legit recreational SLR, though, be prepared to spend at least $1,500.

I always trust C/Net's reviews of electronic devices. I didn't take the time to look for the models you mentioned, but they have a lot of info here.
