I am so out of the loop on these things. Haven't owned one since they weighed less than 10 pounds and recorded VHS. As with anything else, everyone claims to have the be all do all yada yada blah blah stuff.

Here's what I'm looking for. I'd like one that reproduces video and audio in good quality. Does not have to be HD unless that's what it takes. I'd like to record events (scenery, live concerts, etc.) with good color and good sound reproduction. I don't need any fancy built in add ons. Just want to record, download and edit what I've done.

Would like to hold the price at $500 or under if possible. Anyone have any personal experience and suggestions? Thanks.

Idk much about camera/camcorders.

I haven't sold a high def one in a while, but I know they used to be up there.

Yeah, they should be. Just don't know if Hi Def is worth the extra money. I'll be viewing on my computer. My monitor is Hi Def but sometimes I can't tell the difference.

I just bought the coolest camera called the Lid Cam, by Rhino Industries. It fits under the bill of a ball cap. Has a 32gig sd card. Goes for about $125. You can order from them or Gander Mountain. I'm gonna use it during turkey season this spring. Ought to be a hoot. I know you're wanting something else, but I thought I'd share. On another note, if your wife has run out of reasons to roll her eyes at you, get the Lid Cam...

Samsung HMX-W200RP hand-held camcorder on eBay!

I got this around Christmas as a take any where recorder. Cheap durable and HD quality. The only drawback is the quality on big scenery mountain picks. I am going to use it for my hiking, ski, and beach trips. Waterproof and shock absorbant.

Looks perfect for hiking or ski. I'm thinking about strapping something like that on the front of my RC Airplane this spring.

Those are pretty cool. Yeah, looking for something else. Want really good video and audio. Two other things those would be good for.....Let a small child wear them around for awhile and then look at things the way they see them. Also, would be fun to put on a dog or cat for the same purpose. I think it would be fun.

Kodak has one for $170 - I bought a Zi8. It will take HD video but is made for ease of use and transfer. It has a USB plug that will hook directly to a computer and you can upload to FB & YouTube directly. It has a USB-HDMI cable that will let you put it directly onto an HDTV.

Not great if you want super quality and features, but it you want point and shoot - it's great.

Not the style I'm thinking of but I like the features. Just looked on Amazon and it has a ton of good reviews. Added to the list to look further in to. Thanks.
