Thumb injury according to Volquest. Not ideal, but hopefully it’s only 4 weeks and he is back in time for SEC play. I hate it for him because his development feels key to the success of our season, and missing some of these “buy” games where he could get extended run is unfortunate.

What a mess. Seems like our health luck from last year is not translating this year. Dubar going to get plenty of run now

Yep. I’m surprised that we left 2 scholarships open for that very reason. We were almost injury-free all last year. You had to figure we were going to not be so lucky this year. I’m still high on this team’s potential, but the health issues are a big concern for me right now.

In all seriousness, alluded to this the other day when some were questioning Dubar actually having a role on this team…feels like he’ll have every opportunity over the next 4 weeks to show he can contribute.

You’ve seemed less active than normal on the board to start the year. Any plans to provide more thoughts on the team, game recaps, etc.?

I just don’t feel like a mid-season guy is ultimately going to help this year. It has some in the past, but it’s extremely difficult to incorporate someone new into Barnes’ system.

Santi was a special player. Guys like him are rare. He bought in from day one to the hard-nosed approach of the coaching staff. I doubt we can find someone like that this late in the cycle that can actually contribute.

Agreed. At that time, we were also a bit desperate after Turner’s bombshell exit. Santi was the right player at the right time for Tennessee.

See, I disagree. He feels like a luxury to me.

Now, if you are one who believes he's a future lottery pick next June, then I can understand having that opinion.

To me, his development this year will be more apparent next season as I don't buy the hype on him just yet. And if that be the case, missing 4-6 weeks against our non-con schedule, I don't think it really affects him much.

Was hoping to get to a 4 game thoughts/recap before tonight’s game, and then ideally get back to doing each game individually, that’s my hope at least.

Have there been a lot of these folks here? Don’t recall reading such an exaggerated statement.

Carr being out along with JP essentially reduces any buffer room to sustain another injury. They don't have enough scholarship players right now to practice 5 V 5.

If no one else gets injured until they both come back then team should be ok. Just very risky for next few weeks that no one else will turn an ankle.

What is the latest on Estrella? I haven’t been as active on the boards lately so I haven’t seen any updates. Last I heard is he was working on the side with trainers during practice but that was a week ago at this point

I’m not a Cam Carr “lottery pick” truther, but I do think our depth is concerning enough that him missing time that can support his development before conference play is very unfortunate.

I think Carr played quite well these past two games and flashed some of the talent that makes his ceiling exciting.

I don’t want to give the wrong impression that his play is the cornerstone of our success. But I’m not sure I would classify any of our players as a luxury this year. We don’t have the depth for any of our pieces to be a luxury.

There seemed to be a core rotation of 9 players heading into the season with Boswell and Dubar on the outside looking in. Losing 2 of your core 9 for an extended period of time, IMO, hurts as this team is still trying to build chemistry. I know in recent years we’ve been prone to fouling a lot, which makes having a thin bench more of a weakness.

Maybe I’m on an island with the concerns about our depth right now, but if there is anything that has stood out early in the season as a potential obstacle to winning a championship or making a Final 4, depth has felt like the biggest one.

Bad news for Carr and this gives Bishop a chance to get some minutes.

I don't think it is reasonable to think the mid-season guy is going to totally incorporate in, but the Vols are one injury away from having Boswell as the only back-up for the 1-3. Maybe Dubar can help at the three, but the Vols could use another extra body for practice and to take off some of the unneeded mileage on ZZ, CL, JG, and JM. From what I have seen playing a walk-on a minute or two just isn't feasible.
