Or an optimist, or just naive.

For the past 2 years my expectations have been high for Jordan McRae, and I don't think I'm the only one.

Well, I'm jumping on it again, even though I've said I'm waiting and keeping expectations to a minimum this year with him, I lied.

His attitude this off season seems to be different, but the biggest thing that's made me feel this way...jarnell stokes. I'm not sure if they're rooming together, but they're hanging out a lot and we all know Stoke work ethic. Well at 4:30 this morning jarnell stokes and jordy were in Pratt getting up shots. Then at 6:30 they joined the rest of the team and staff at G10 to run, and once done there, off to class.

Like I said, maybe I'm too optimistic, but I'm jumping on the Jordan McRae band wagon again, and I really am expecting a great year from him.

If he can put it together consistently on both ends we can be a top 10 team this year. Being as loaded as we are in the frontcourt, and having Trae as a proven leader at PG, if we can get something from the wings we will be very balanced and dangerous.

If what you say is true TNOrange, I'll be joining you on the bandwagon. That's the kind of stuff you want to see.

He'll have to prove it to me. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. He has the tools though. Just needs to put it all together, esp mentally.

I, too, feel that Jordy has the makeup to be a superstar, but in the past his defense and low bball IQ negated his abilities. Sometimes I have to remind myself that last year was the equivalent to him being a frosh since he didn't play much during his freshman campaign. We all wanted him to make the same strides as Trae did, but Trae had a lot more experience than Jordy to build off of. My expectation of him is to avg about 10ppg and play good defense. I just want him to be a solid player for us. If he goes off this year then thats just icing on the cake. Moderate expectations keeps me from being disappointed in my usually unrealistic player development hopes. The reality of it too is that he won't be called on to be anything more than a solid player for us with a core of Trae, Jeronne and Jarnell in place.

I think Jordan can help himself tremendously if he commits himself to playing consistently on defense. He seems like a guy that feeds off of energy...lots of emotional highs and lows. It's cliche, but relevant in this situation; he's a guy that can benefit from translating success on the defensive end to his offense. Consistency is all he needs to earn a starting spot and become a major factor in our lineup.

Jordy having a break out year would take this team to a different level IMO.

From all accounts I've heard from the Italy trip he was one of the best and most committed defenders, hopefully it continues. He saw what CCM expects on defense last year, and saw it a few times by being benched, I expect a different level of defense from him.

The kid has the potential and I don't think that's ever been in question. For me, it comes down to desire, does he want it?

This. The kid's athletic ability is through the roof and he can flat score the basketball at times. He just has to gain the consistency that only many, many hours in the gym can bring...

He better bring it this year.
He's got serious competition for playing time this season.
Passive play and mental lapses will buy you splinter time under Martin.
I can easily see guys like Q and Moore getting more minutes because of their aggressive nature on both ends of the floor.
If Italy is any indication Edwards has the 3 spot and Hall will stay on the bus.

Reese won't see 1 minute of floor time this year.

Fwiw, Quinn said right now he expects Edwards off the bench and McRae starting at the 3.

That may be the way the season starts.
It will be hard for McRae to keep Edwards on the bench unless he's changed his nature in the off season.

Edwards is a vacuum cleaner around the boards and won't hesitate to take it to the rim.

McRae is more likely to throw up a prayer from the 3 point line. When he goes against D1 defense he seems to lose confidence. Like I say, has he changed that?

As for Reese, I see a medical and as you stated a blessing in disguise. A year to get stronger and learn the system.

They're grooming Q to play 3 positions. They want him on the floor.

Need I say Moore?

Bring it this year or sit!

Yes, the reference to Reese not playing was because of te surgery, he won't be able to do much until march, way too late. So yea, I'd say definite medical redshirt.

I love Edwards, I'm sure you've seen me praising him, my expectations for him have been laughed at by some on this board, but I think he'll be good.

The way I see it shaking is probably McRae playing 25+ and Edwards 25+, this is at he 2/3 position. That leaves 30 minutes for mcbee, to Richardson and Q to fight over, one of those 3 isn't going to get big minutes most likely. Mcbee may stay the starter just for experience and smarts issue, but I expect McRae to get more minutes at the 2 than mcbee.

As for Moore, with the log jam at the 2/3, and the fact he primarily worked at PG in Italy, I'd say his minutes will almost all he coming at the 1.

I think you have golden, Moore, mcbee, McRae, Edwards, stokes, maymon and hall getting solid minutes and Q/Josh fighting for the last spot.

As much as I love McBee, and I wish we could transfer his heart into Kenny, I think he'll become a spot player this year. Played out of necessity last season.

Way too much talent and length in front of him this year.

Josh will be used primarily in defensive situations unless he can lose his passive nature on offense.

Hall won't see the floor after the first 6 games.
Martin used the term explosive when describing Yemi on Memphis radio a few nights back. Never heard that term used to describe Kenny.

I only see 3 solid spots on the team this year.
I think we'll be pleasantly surprised mid season by the better quality of play that position competition brings this year.

Do I hope McRae brings it? of course. He can only get better.

I don't think Richardson will be fighting for the last spot in the 2/3 rotation like some have said. He showed too much last season, and I don't see him taking a backseat in the rotation this season. He's not the best offensive player, but his offensive skills are a little underrated IMO. He hit some big shots to get our offense going in several big games last year.

Yea I expect around 15 minutes a game for mcbee, some games more some less, but around 15 to be his average. If that comes from a starting role ok, but I think his minutes definitely diminish from last year.

Josh averaged 16 minutes a game last year, either he or Q get those minutes this year, not sure which.

I hope Kenny wakes up, but I'm confident enough in yemi that I feel ok if yemi gets his minutes.

This is not a shot at McBee, but if he doesn't see regular minutes, that's a great sign.

I have always liked Mcrae ever since I got to watch him in high school and Im still on his band wagon.Yanke Vol has it right.

If McRae can become the second scoring option and just be decently consistent on D, it's a win.

Who will be fighting for it, I said between Q and josh, who's it between in your opinion?
