Cal Trip Plans (merged)

the ferry is very cheap like $9 each way. I'm pretty sure the Marin/Sausalito ferry goes past alcatraz and has a nice view of the golden gate.

one company is: BLUE & GOLD FLEET: Escape from the Rock Cruise

Cal's colors by the way :)

edit: might be what you are looking for: The famous one-hour Bay Cruise sails along the City’s waterfront, past the PIER 39 sea lions, under the Golden Gate Bridge, by Sausalito, past Angel Island and around Alcatraz.
Staten Island Ferry in NYC is FREE!

I've made a slight adjustment. I'm now flying in a day earlier. So add: Tuesday, July 28th-Arrive at noon. Lunch on the Embarcadero. Early dinner at Goat's Head Pizza. Go to either the Giants-Rockies or A's-Blue Jays game.

okay I'm sure this has been asked a few too many times, and for one more I apologize... but can someone give me an idea on a cheaper-but-still-convenient place to stay? gotta keep it as cheap as possible since I'm going to the UF game two weeks after the Cal game, then two weeks after the UF game I'm getting married and heading on the honeymoon... thanks in advance!!

oh, it'll have to be somewhat close to the BART since I won't be renting a car.

Go to the Giants game. You can see Bonds play (maybe) Helton play and AT&T Park looks amazing.

Cheap and San Francisco do not go together. At all.

depends how scummy you want to go. you can find stuff in the $70 range on orbitz.

haha, so I've noticed! now throw in the holiday weekend and few thousand traveling vols and it just gets better.

LG, you going to the UF/UT game?

I'm trying to get tix. Here's where things stand:

1) I am telling everyone I know that I am looking for tickets in hopes that someone will take pity on me and throw me some good seats, for which I would gladly pay up to $200 each.

2) I am looking on Ebay and stubhub and such places and good seats from strangers would be more like $400-plus per seat. Not worth it, IMO.

3) I could risk it and go up and scalp. But I am just really nervous doing that because I'd be flying in a young lady all the way from L.A. to go and I would not want to look like an idiot for going to a game for which I do not have tickets.

There's plenty of other ways in which I look like an idiot, already.

A quick look at orbitz found the Holiday Inn WALNUT CREEK for $79 a night. 3 blocks from bart (or so says the website). You'll have to transfer but it shouldn't be over a 30 minute bart ride to berkeley. Walnut Creek also has a nice night life. Good brewery called Jupiter (edit: whoops looks like it closed).

yeah I saw that too, looks like approx $427 ea for flight & hotel... not too shabby all things considered

I've seen both guys and the park many times. I'll probably wait and see who's pitching in the respective games before I make my decision.

That changes things then. I've never seen Helton in the pros or Bonds plus the stadiums aren't even comparable.

If you guys really wanted to be adventurous you could rent a canoe one day and head out to McCovey Cove and hope to catch one of Bond’s home runs. It could be a lot of fun for the outdoor types. You never know, with the slump he is in now you could catch the big one! I would hope he had already broken the record by then, but again, you never know. :dunno:

P.S. If you do this be sure to take portable radio so you can know when the homers are coming. Downside is you will have stiff competition from the other guys who do it every game and know where best to position themselves for home run balls. Another plus, no paying for tickets! Still, gotta rent the canoe.

A's fans are better than Giants fans :good!:

I agree, but AT&T is always packed to the brim so they are doing something right, not so much at the coliseum. I wonder how ticket sales will do when Bonds is gone? It’s pretty much an unspoken fact that Bonds was brought back to sell tickets and make the fans happy. Only ballpark in America where he still gets routine standing ovations and is NEVER heckled.

I would second that Walnut Creek is a nice town and it has some decent restaurants. I can't say anything about the Holiday Inn, though.

Hey gang,

I just got my plane tickets for Cal. Where is everyone staying while in town. I'm flying into Oakland on Fri, Aug 31 and back out EARLY Mon, Sept 3. Any recommendations?

We still have not finalized a hotel, but know that we want to stay in downtown San Francisco. We may need to establish a Vol fan meeting Friday night downtown.

I'm definitely down for a VolNation get-together Friday night, what about a "tailgate" spot??
