Cade Phillips to the portal

Here's the biggest loss folks. My twin 18-year-old daughters are in love with him, and apparently all the girls at school. LOL. Now we are doomed
So, funny thing...I also have twin 18-year old (in 6 days) daughters, and they are in love with him, too. Small world.

Some agent is giving him advice to jump in is my bet. Even if they don't officially list being represented those guys are in contact with the players. They get them to jump and then represent them if there is a lot of interest. Big men are in high demand, less of them means more NIL. Thats strictly a guess. One of my favorite players. Always brings the fire.

Very few know, but he would be one I think Barnes would love to keep. Pretty dang good last year and a great way to replace the departing big men. Plenty of experience and playing alongside JP would be excellent. Doubt Barnes is telling him it might be best because Barnes doesn’t really know for sure who he can get. Portal not even open.
If you don’t think they’ve already been talking to Gus that aren’t in the portal through back channels you’re playing the wrong game

So...Replace him with 6'8" Dowd?

So anyway, I went back and looked at his stats and realize that his free throw shooting was atrocious. Not that Dowd is great, but I could see how he could be considered an upgrade. Nothing in Phillips' stats scream that we needed to keep him (a high field goal percentage on low volume, perhaps).

I will miss seeing him on the court though.
Brown and Carey are both 6’8” power forwards. Someone has to be 3rd string, because none of them are tall and/ or heavy enough to play center and can’t shoot or dribble well enough to play small forward.

Dowd is definitely an offensive upgrade. Shot 195 three pointers last year. Stretches the floor and can probably play some 3. Tough to see Cade leave though.

We need scorers at every position. Guys that could/will be a leading scorer some games.
No, we don’t… That’s not how you build a winning basketball team. You have to have a mix of scorers and guys that are willing to do the dirty work. The game is played with only one basketball.

Yeah, it's crazy, but 6'8" seems like a tweener height. Where do you put them, unless they have some unusual capability?

It’s only too small for the position if they don’t know how to play post. Broad shoulder and big rear guys like either of them should be able to root around and put the defender on one side of their body or the other. It seems to me that if Broome could be a Wooden Finalist center at Auburn, then 6’ 8” is plenty big for power forwards.

Whoever taught Grant Williams or Ron Slay needs to come back to teach Brown and Carey how to play like an old school power forward. It’s either that, or Brown needs to fully immerse himself in learning to dribble and shoot outside. Carey is PF or bust. Carey would be the next Zion Williamson if he had the quickness to play SF, but he doesn’t have it.

Wish Cade well as he was a good teammate. His injury would effect his NIL opportunities but I hope he stays in major Division 1 level and get a chance to prove himself. We really need another true center to replace Okpara’s defensive presence.

I wonder if his surgery may not been as successful as expected?

Wish him luck, but honestly he was very limited on offense. If he couldn't dunk it then he usually didn't score.

As I've stated when he went down it actually helped our big man rotation. He saw the writing on the wall. He could go to a MTSU an be a solid pickup best of luck.

Can I get an autograph?

I really hate this. Cade seemed like the ultimate "Team" guy and a great teammate. He was for sure one of the "Culture" guys that you hate to lose. Barnes has built a culture here and Cade was one of the few left on the team that could pass that down to the next group coming in. I hope he can heal up and wish him the best of Luck wherever he lands. I will be cheering for him!

Thank you Cade for giving your All for the Vols

I think he goes to NCST w/ Boswell too
Is Boswell’s departure rumor, speculation, or has he announced? I’ve been seeing him as a JRich kind of guy, making big jumps every year and going to the NBA. But what do I know?

I think what happens is when there's coaching movement there a lot of players who will follow a certain coach if there's a roster slot. I'm sure LSU will try to pick up NCST kids while at the same time Gainey/NCST will lean on a few TN players as well. If it's true that JP is going to Indiana... that might've been a Rod Clark move. But also, these kids don't want to sit on the bench. It's not always about money. If they feel like there's a better playing situation for them, they'll take it. It's looking like Barnes is getting some heavy hitters. I hope!
