Cade Phillips to the portal

Cade is Barnes guy. If he’s leaving it’s because we’ve targeted someone who’s gonna take his minutes.

It doesn’t mean he’s leaving. Not every player who enters the portal ends up leaving. He’s testing the waters.

Still nil supporters out there ????
Somehow the powerful corporations always get people to blame the wrong thing.

The NCAA had literal decades to set up a system with defined rules and instead were too greedy to the point they refused to allow players to make anything, even going so far as punishing schools and players just for helping players get meals.

Now got geniuses out here like "HOW ABOUT THAT NIL?!?!?"

No wonder this country is in such a ****** state with how gullible so many of you are.

I guess it's possible, but there's no way UT will sit on their hands and wait. I suspect UT has already moved on in securing his replacement and that's why he's portal bound.

This one is not too surprising. He was an undersized PF/C that never really developed an offensive identity outside of being athletic and dunking, and he was coming off an injury.

I wish the kid well. I could see him going to NC State as I know that he was tight with Jordan Gainey when he was on the roster.

So...Replace him with 6'8" Dowd?

So anyway, I went back and looked at his stats and realize that his free throw shooting was atrocious. Not that Dowd is great, but I could see how he could be considered an upgrade. Nothing in Phillips' stats scream that we needed to keep him (a high field goal percentage on low volume, perhaps).

I will miss seeing him on the court though.

Guessing that Cade was given a number that was lower than he expected. Don’t know if it’s the fact he’s injury prone or we’ve got lines on some better bigs. Simple economics these days folks. Nothing personal, just bidness. Get used to it.
Really he's still a question mark if he will develop into the kind of player we need like Okpara. CRB may have so many studs lined up he may not get as many minutes next year

I’m bummed by this. I’d have thought we could give him an NIL deal that would be a relative bargain for us considering he knows the system despite him being hurt. Can’t imagine he’s getting much money else where.

Feels like this bodes well for Carey, and between the two I’m much higher on Phillips potential

True but let’s be honest. Two years ago, he really didn’t have to be “the guy”. He was more of a 6th man type player. We had guys on that team that did most of the heavy lifting on offense. I’m not sure he got a real chance to be significant contributor. But, Barnes is pretty good at finding “next”.

Bummer, I liked Cade. Feel like if he could’ve developed a 15 ft. jump shot he could’ve been really good as a jr./sr. Shoulder injury probably ended the hopes of that though. Hopefully he’s got a healthy few years ahead of him wherever he ends up.

Some agent is giving him advice to jump in is my bet. Even if they don't officially list being represented those guys are in contact with the players. They get them to jump and then represent them if there is a lot of interest. Big men are in high demand, less of them means more NIL. Thats strictly a guess. One of my favorite players. Always brings the fire.
