I hate to be nasty, but screw him. If he wants to go to Clemson and win a national championship, then he needs to get his ass in his car and head to SC. I sure won't mourne his loss.
If he wants to stay home with the team his dad played for--the team he supposedly LOVES--then, he should do that. Being at Tennessee didn't hurt Barnette, Dobbs, and Kamara in their pro aspirations. If his ego requires him to go to Clemson or THE OSU because thats what he feels he needs to validate the fact he is a real winner, then go ahead on. A really good coach can win with severral three star and a few four star players. Let Cade Mays 'do what's best for his career'. I hope we beat his ass in the national championship game in his senior year. Flame away.
Sorry, I misspoke--I meant to say 'fat ass'.

Calm down, Francis. It's a high school kid deciding where he will play a sport. He's not stealing your beer, f***ing your girlfriend/wife, or taking your turn at the bowling alley.I hate to be nasty, but screw him. Go to bed dude. We will be fine. He wants to stay home but our university isn't giving him a good reason to. I know you think he outta stay just because we're Tennessee but he's making his life decision. Let it be and continue cheering on the ones that are currently here and are coming.
No need to call any kid names.
He was literally interviewed just this evening speaking with excitement about a possible Leach hire at UT. He clearly still intends to come here assuming that hire is made, or another similar to it. Calm down.
Four posts after mine telling me to chill or calm down. What makes any of you think I'm not calm? I spoke my opinion in my post--I'm plenty calm. I posted something similar re Tee Higgins last year. I just don't get Knoxville boys going to other schools. It always ticks me off. Guess it's because I had to pay through the nose to go there.
One idiot called me Francis. WTF would make you think my name is Francis, or the shortened version, Frank? My name isn't Frank. What if I tell you to kiss my azz, Vernon? Is that your name?
I do appreciate (like) fourcat for a reasonable post. Otherwise, bite me.
You think he should stay home just because he is from Tennessee, I bet you dont say the same thing when Tennessee brings kids in from Ga or Fla. Pretty sad that you call a kid names just because you are butt hurt.
Actually, I do kind of raise my eyebrows a little when I see a kid come to Tennessee if he is from Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Athens, Lexington, Columbia, Auburn, Oxford etc., etc.
However, I almost never see this, so when a kid goes from Knoxville (Higgins, Rogers, Mays), I gotta admit, It is a little disturbing to me.
It's not too unusual I guess for a Tennessee kid (or Georgia or Mississippi or whatever) to go to another school, but when you grow up in a town and go to all of the games and, in some cases, your father played there...I don't know... I just don't get it.
I absolutely hate the mercenary nature of sports. Trey Smith is going to be a #1 draft pick barring injury. Coming to his home school is not hurting him at all in that regard.
