Bye Week Question - Favorite Non-Household name Vol of all time?

First off, I love how much recognition McCleskey received on here. My oldest son's initials purposely were JJ because I truly admired McCleskey's style of play.

Four non house hold names that come to mind are: Todd Helton, Alan Cockrell, Steve Alatorre, and Jerry Colquitt.

Always felt so bad for Jerry when he suffered the injury against UCLA. I don't claim to know anything about the man but it seemed he was patient, waited his turn, and then for it to go so poorly for him just always stuck with me.

Also wanted to note that someone had mentioned Anthony Miller in an earlier post. I met him and Joey Kent recently in Lebanon, TN. Super guys!!! They represent the power T well.

Cockrell and Helton weren't "non household" names. Not even close

I was under the impression that the thread was about household names still mentioned today. We gather around on Saturdays in the fall and talk about glory days and fan favorites but I just hadn't heard these two mentioned in awhile. Helton would only be known as a Colorado Rockie to the majority and most don't even know that he played football along side Manning. Cockrell only saw significant playing time in 82 and 83 so I figured most folks in 2025 had forgotten him. If anything I just hope this post brought back some good memories for some folks. Go Vols!

I’m a late 90s/00s kid so for me some that stand out as favorite Vols that non-Vols may not know:

Joey Kent/Marcus Nash

Cedric Houston/Gerald Riggs Jr

Jonathan Wade/Jason Allen/Jonathan Hefney

Because how could we not mention:

Dwayne Goodrich
Steve Johnson
Billy Ratliff
Eric Westmoreland
Raynoch Thompson

And I’m partial to kickers so:

Jeff Hall/James Wilhoit

Outside of that, I’d offer up…

Travis Stephens: most underrated of the 4 headed monster at rb in the late 90s. Although Florida fans might know his name 😏

Anddd

Rico McCoy. He didn’t get the recognition being overshadowed by future pro bowler Jerod Mayo, but he was one of the last of a line of badass linebackers across the late 90s and 00s.
