So I’m not lying, I just somehow posted the truth despite being lazy, uneducated, weak, and uninformed. Not sure how I stumbled into so much factual information while living with these attributes. Maybe I’m also lucky!

Heupel had Dillion Gabriel playing great as a True Freshman until he got hurt. He threw for 3653 yards in 12 starts, 32 TDs and with only 4 interceptions. Gabriel just continued to rise in stock from UCF to Oklahoma to Oregon. Anything over 3000 yards and 25 TDs is really good for any college QB freshman or 5th year Senior.

I thought Nico was going to be our version of Vince Young. All signs pointed to him being a legitimate Heisman candidate.

After things have gone with Tayven Jackson, Jake Merklinger, Nico, and GMac (although the jury is still out)... I need to see one of Heupel's HS QB recruits actually produce at a high level before I get excited about anyone. He's proven that he can develop guys, but they've all been portal QBs. We're in year 6 and he's yet to develop a HS QB into anything more than serviceable. As a result, we're on our 5th starter in 6 years.

Nico would have gotten better under Heupel if he stayed. Unfortunately, he didn't tune out all of the dumb bastards in his ear and made a bad choice.

Look at DJ Lagway, Jackson Arnold, and Nico….all highly touted in the 23’ class and all at their second (Arnold’s 3rd school). Some guys reach their ceiling and don’t continue their upward trajectory.

Who knows what Faizon ultimately becomes, but I’m glad he’s putting in the work and doing everything he can to be prepared.

Remember the Arkansas game in 24’? Nico went back to California on the bye week. That’s not the reason we lost but you have to be meticulous in your preparation as a QB.

Yes and he played awful and he proceeded to miss Sampson wide ass open in the flat with nobody between him and goalline then soon after went out of bounds on 4th down to end the game. He had a foot out the door back in Cali.

It’s hard to know what’s going to happen with a HS qb once he gets to college, and they develop at different speeds. Look at UM qb stats last year for example. 5 star can’t miss looked below average.
I haven’t researched but venture to guess a boatload of highly ranked HS QBs don’t pan out as hoped expected.

All the year 4,5,6 stuff is a little down the drain with nil and portal as we used to try to measure coaches based on developing their own picks as recruits over 4-5 years after years in weight room and in the system as upperclassmen.
It’s basically a new team every year right now. I believe we will have a new starting qb for the 6th year in a row? We are likely to have a 2nd 5* qb transfer before soph year after rarely signing one previously. Thats all nil/portal.
He will either show us something the next 2 years with defense now addressed or he will move on, but it really is year to year now. Takes a qb, solid defense and a few bounces to make a run.
As a coach you have to play the system but it’s a challenge for a coach to have to start over every year instead of advancing offense and defense further with a team loaded with starters who have been around 3-4 years

Nico and G-Mac are the only HS QBs we have recruited that have stuck around long enough to get a real shot. I guess you could include Merk, but he wasn't super highly rated and Joey was pretty amazing las year. Hooker was great. Milton was solid. Joey was good.

Nico was mostly a bust at least in relation to his star status., though we did make it to the CFP with him at the helm. Would have been interesting to see how he developed if his head was in the right place.

We don't know about G-Mac yet.

If Faizon doesn’t play like someone with no experience, I’ll be amazed. He has zero experience in college. That shows how little Macintyre and our offensive staff accomplished after a year. So far they have failed Macintyre and Merklinger. We really need to set our sights on the portal transfers until the staff figures out how to develop a high school recruit.

Kids jump around. Look at the top guys from the last several years, almost all make at least one roster move if not several.

Depends on how you define developing a QB? I think Heuple can develop a QB to play in his O system but if your std is to be an NFL QB then that brings some questions. For me developing the former is important not their NFL careers. Why GMac has not developed who knows. But he takes Joey and he plugs and plays 1st season.

You realize all the Talking Heads this off-season have said any other year GMACwould have been the starter, but FB has just been so good that it’s hard to deny him the playtime. So in terms of development, I would say GMAC is right on schedule maybe other than his weight

I hadn’t really picked up on that. I’ve heard a lot about how Brandon is physically gifted, but also heard he isn’t that accurate. It sounded to me like Mac isn’t processing quickly enough to beat out a guy with no experience.

Not surprised. Faizon is slightly shorter but already 20+ pounds heavier, better at scrambling and extending plays, and its starting to become very obvious his upside is categorically higher than GMAC's.

Maybe but having 3 QBs in 5 years on current NFL rosters isn’t anything to ignore. None of those 3 were tagged for NFL before playing for CH.

According to you, he either agreed to be backup only or someone was intentionally dishonest with him. I was under the impression that we recruited Merk because he had the potential to start, based on the buzz around his recruitment.

This happens with every four or five star QB recruit. We’re excited to have him until someone else comes along and then the media acts like the narrative should change to “he never had the potential”. Why do we give the coaches a free pass when every high school QB becomes a flop?

We did make it to the playoffs but I wouldn’t put QB play in the top 3 contributing factors. It takes some big stones to demand more money after his performance that year.

Quarterback isn’t an easy position to evaluate…for every Trevor Lawrence you’ll have 2-3 (if not more) Tate Martell’s. Progress isn’t always linear. Joe Burrow was in school 5 years and was blessed with 2 Elite WRs and players around him.

TLaw won a natty his freshman year but didn’t necessarily progress as a player his last 2 years at Clemson. You can be here today, gone tomorrow.

We’ve gone the transfer QB route and had good success. Faizon looks like the real deal but there’s so much unknown about him.

He’s going to go through growing pains but how he responds is the most important.
