Everything about this is correct. QBs aren’t being asked to do as much problem solving pre/post snap. It’s now based on traits vs. understanding coverages/structures and shredding defenses.

The game is in a weird place. The receivers are getting better but the QB play has stagnated. How many dropback passers do we see in the NFL still ballin out? Stafford, Goff, Purdy…and Purdy scrambles a lot 😂

I hope Faizon is able to slow the game down in his 🧠 he has the 🧰 it’s can he continue to improve his 🏈 IQ to be an elite QB.

I took it as Indianapolis Colts loves Dallas Cowboys. Which led me to think that Peyton Manning and also Jerry Jones were contributing to us getting Faizon. Which made me happy.

We're in year 6 and he's yet to develop a HS QB into anything more than serviceable. As a result, we're on our 5th starter in 6 years.

This thread starts with an insider giving us the ultra positive news that this staff is extremely excited about how good Faizon is, so much so that they’re actually trying to keep that excitement under wraps… so naturally it turns into a bunch of people criticizing Heupel’s QB development.

Don’t ever change, VolNation.

So I’m not lying, I just somehow posted the truth despite being lazy, uneducated, weak, and uninformed. Not sure how I stumbled into so much factual information while living with these attributes. Maybe I’m also lucky!

I didn’t criticize Heupel’s QB development. I actually complimented it in plain English when I said, “He’s proven he can develop guys”.

I’m just not convinced that he knows a good young QB when he sees one, so naturally I’m not excited that he’s excited about a young QB. But I’m not pessimistic about our future with Faizon either. I’ve just decided to have no expectations at all until I see how he (or GMac) performs in the SEC.

I respectfully disagree. Most teams run some form on an RPO offense. The QB does not only need to read pre-snap defense, but in a milli-second read post snap defense and still have the mindset of where to go with the ball or tuck and run. This takes plenty of cerebral focus.

It’s hard to know what’s going to happen with a HS qb once he gets to college, and they develop at different speeds. Look at UM qb stats last year for example. 5 star can’t miss looked below average.
I haven’t researched but venture to guess a boatload of highly ranked HS QBs don’t pan out as hoped expected.
To not be excited about Faizon because Heup is excited, but doesn’t know talent and potential at qb when he sees it, is pretty weak.

Look at DJ Lagway, Jackson Arnold, and Nico….all highly touted in the 23’ class and all at their second (Arnold’s 3rd school). Some guys reach their ceiling and don’t continue their upward trajectory.

Who knows what Faizon ultimately becomes, but I’m glad he’s putting in the work and doing everything he can to be prepared.

Remember the Arkansas game in 24’? Nico went back 🏡 to California on the bye week. That’s not the reason we lost but you have to be meticulous in your preparation as a QB.
