One QB doesn’t have to be bad, because he lost a QB battle to a younger QB.

I’ve been saying GMAC has been doing EVERYTHING you would want a 6’6” 180 lbs QB to do with 20 months on campus. He’s like 210 now. But his processing speed needs to speed up. Experience obviously helps with that.

Let me put it this way.
Would Tyler Bray beat out Cam Newton if they were both freshman? Can Newton was running over Dennis Rogan on back up duty before he became a monster an Auburn. Tyler was forced into duty late his freshman season.

We all know how good Tyler was! Now add mobility to that! That’s GMAC. He’s a damn talented player that unfortunately came to Tennessee before one of the best prospects Tennessee in its rich history has EVER SIGNED.

Get it out of your heads that GMAC is overrated.

Not saying GMac is overrated whatsoever. What I do wonder is Heupel talked about Faizon in May spending every day in the facility trying to get himself ready to go. Was GMac alongside him?

I’m not saying GMac doesn’t work hard. But did he truly leave every stone unturned in the QB battle? Maybe he did and he happened to lose the battle to a more “talented” player..fine, all good.

some of the players have spoken on Faizon’s leadership ability which is unusual for a young QB to have that rapport with his teammates so early on.

I had wondered that also when the coach said that about the May stuff and how he would walk out on the turf.

Drew Brees used to go through game scripts meticulously in the facility night before the game. Playing Quarterback is mastering all parts of the game: film sessions, practice/walkthroughs, workouts and independent study.

When your QB is super dialed into the details, it bleeds into the entire team. When he’s not (à la Kyler Murray having a clause in his contract about 🎮) you see flickers of good play but not consistency year over year.

It has been obvious that FB arrived better physically equipped to play at an SEC level. GMAC has always been a development required prospect.

I would bet that FB projects more success right now, maybe call it the floor, but they both have an unknown ceiling.

Much has been made of PROCESSING speed, but in reality we don’t know if the issue is how fast he READS and perceives the situation or if his reactions are learned responses related to ingrained risk/reward criteria that could be changed. How big a window? Throw a guy open? Has he been conservative in practice to avoid turnovers during the competition? Would it be different with live bullets? Is he another bad practice gamer? Bet they targeted him based on games, not practice execution.

Love me some FB, but not going to give up on GMAC becoming a high level QB on a longer timeline. We are soon to see what two high character guys do when it counts and go from there.

I believe you. I just think live games are much different than practices/scrimmages. Hopefully we protect him and allow him to develop confidence early.

And sometimes they are ready for the big stage right away. These guys now a days are on ESPN on Friday nights, They go to camps where the media is there with NFL QBs like the Mannings. Then they play in All-American games against the best in the country, again shown on ESPN. There was none of this years ago, we didn't know about any high school players across the country. Now DGG videos are being seen by everybody and ESPN is showing his games. These guys grow up under the lights.

Agree.

Too dumb to be scared isn’t a bad thing. Confidence over worrying about everything that can go wrong is better. And you’re right the competition level at high school and level of preparedness is higher than it was in the past.

I hear you 💯 percent. And I agree Faizon is more physically ready than George. That’s why it’s so important for George to master the mundane components of playing QB.

I referenced Brees because he didn’t have great arm strength. He was deadly accurate but he didn’t have a cannon. He was surgical and precise on layering throws, throwing WRs open.

Playing QB is being a metronome of the team. It’s not just about the physical talent. It seems like Faizon has taken the mental part of the game seriously as well as being a great teammate.

I do want George to succeed when he gets his opportunity. And as a backup, you’re always a play away.

Yeah I think he’s a special person and will be a special player. He definitely has “it”. Just want to see him play and overcome mistakes. He seems like a quick study.
