I was wondering if anyone besides me saw Butch's press comference after the game and him saying he all but guarantees at 3 or 4 ranked recruiting class. I know we are close to that now. Makes you wonder what he knows.

Yea I heard that too and was intrigued by the comment. Maybe it belongs in the same place as the comment about us losing 8 games or so or maybe there is some merit to him having an ace up his sleeve. The guy can flat out recruit, that much we know.

I just watched that and was going to make a thread about it... I think Butch has another big name or two that's going to show up for Tennessee...

The importance of this blowout win, and the awesomeness the team displayed in ezecuting most of those plays, could be the reason they get that high ranking. He.could be meaning the bowl game will have that big of an affect.

I think he said that "we will", not I guarantee. I'm skeptical on the 3rd or 4th best class though. Fifth to 10th maybe yes. He also said that the pundits were saying he would only win 3 or 4 games this past season and no one found that quote from anyone. We should finish well, but I would be surprised if it's any higher than 5.

I would love it is he flipped someone from Bama.

Maybe that's just the ingrained hatred I have for them though.

You know, many folks on here picked us to lose to south carolina, vandy, and even kentucky early in the year. SC was picked to win the sec, kentucky looked better than us early on, and not many people thought candy would fall the way they did. That makes us a 3 win team. Hell, utah state was supposed to beat us. I think he is saying that many analysts at one point or another picked tn to lose to those teams. If you combine all those predictions then yes a 3 to 4 win team we were supposed to be.

we are sitting at 5-6th right now and if we pick up another four 4* guys, which is completely possible, we could easily finish with a top 5 class--- this bowl game definitely helped us with guys like Phillips, Sapp, maybe Allen and St Louis....

If Urban (Oscar) Meyer can beat Bama, and he did, then we know beating Bama is in Butch's future.

I noticed it and thought the same thing. He would have to be pretty confident that we are still going to land 2 or 3more big fish to make a statement like that.

Its simple, even if all the "experts" say we are ranked 5,6,7,8,9 or 10 or whatever, Butch can just say in his eyes its a top 3 or 4 class

To his credit, he does have a history of finding diamonds in the rough and turning them into gems. So, if he says it, I'll defer to his recruiting eyes.

I was actually just about to make a thread about this in the RF. I noticed it. He was seemed very confident in what he was saying. He must feel pretty good about Allen, Phillips, Jones, maybe one of Newsome/Love (or both?).

I'm not a recruiting numbers guru, but wouldn't the class as it stands and adding Kyle Phillips alone boost us up to 3 or 4?

Last year Butch repeatedly brought up "the #5 recruiting class in the nation (as it was on Rivals)", never anything lower. I think he's being realistic when he says top 3 or 4. He's got some commits in the bag.

...add Pat Allen. Hubbs and P. Fort are dropping major hints that he will be a Vol. Sheriron Jones also has named us his leader since he decommitted from UF, so we are still the team to beat there and he is announcing soon. He is a take as far as I can tell. Love & Newsome have looked positive for some time, however we've got some real competition in Stanford & Texas for their signature.
