Cliches and bad press conference remarks aside, I think deep down he just has never GOT IT.
He said he wanted to be at a big time program where football really matters.
But, did he really?
Knoxville has 3 full time sports radio stations which is amazing for its market size.
How many web sites are devoted to UT football?
How many businesses rely on UT football to help them meet their budgets?
Butch wanted the big time in college football.
But, he didn't foresee or wouldn't react properly when he did see what comes with it.
If the rumors/reports are true that he feels under appreciated for what he has done here, he just must be tone deaf.

All I wanted after SCarolina and Vandy was some self directed anger and frustration at himself for letting all of us down. Mention the injuries sure, but also state that in no way in his fourth year should our defensive depth be so bad to perform the way it did down the stretch.

Like it or not, because of our school administration being so slow in filling positions, it looks like the worst of all worlds right now.
Most Vol fans no longer want Butch and Butch wants out but he can't find a better job.
So, we are stuck with each other. Just like in some marriages that stay together for the children.
This sucks. And, it's not fair to our players and tremendous fan base that love this University. :thud:

If he did, he's dumb. A coach 100 games over .500 lost the fanbase.

Not trying to start a Fulmer debate, but that should tell anyone that you're not safe to coast

He's very thin skinned and does not operate well under pressure. Not a good combo at a place like UT.

I think he misjudged it somewhat, but also thought he could control it and or change the narrative to simmer it.

Either way its obvious its not fun anymore.

I think he loved the idea of a job like this w/o the pressure. He had that for 3 years. I mean, how many places with over a dozen conference championships and multiple national championships can you go to where you are given a free ride for 3 years?

The problem is that free ride time ran out. This was year 4. The year we were all waiting for. SECCG. Rematch with Bama. It all lead here. And we got losses to Vandy and South Carolina. He better thank God he beat Florida. I believe he's packing bags had that not happened.

I still don't see anyone out there to hire at the moment who's a for sure better fit. And that is what we have to have. If we make a change next year, no mid major. No assistants. We need a home run, for sure thing. And we rarely get that (Johnny Majors only one I can think of).

So that's why I want Butch to stay and win. That's why I pray the Helfrich talk is true. If it is, he's still trying. No staff changes and he's collecting a pay check and waiting on the buyout.

Yeah. He thinks he can just make a few holier than type cliches, and everyone will just kowtow.

We fired Tennessee's favorite son that had won a national champion(at Pitt) and won a few SEC championships in Majors and a Ex Vol that had won over 150 games and a national champion and a few SEC championship.

He's a dumbass, if he thinks he's above that.

I don't think he underestimated the level of scrutiny, I think he has overestimated his abilities and the abilities of his staff.

Now that it's coming to light, he can't handle it.

He's a middle of the road coach
He'll never get 10 wins.
He will be damn lucky to make it through this season

Your time to shine. Hope it doesn't get better.

I told you all from the beginning Lyle didn't "Get It". I hate it for our program--players and fans deserve better.

You all that didn't want to see the truth need to just eat your crow and we can move on. Time to stop defending Lyle and move on. Yes I understand he won't be fired this year and will be back for 2017. Yes I will still be a fan and watch games.

PS:

I think it has gotten better (than Dooley years) and can get even better (I want it to). I just don't believe that is possible with Lyle at the healm.

He acts like everyone should be happy with the job he's doing.
They would be if he were at Cincinnati or some other mid major team. Tennessee has been down for a long time. They have been there before though and will again with the right coach. We have fired some really good coaches here for not meeting expectations.

I dont buy for a second that Butch wants out.

Why the hell would anybody want to quit after reaching the milestone of winning the Life Championship? Lol. Just joking a little. The best thing for Tennessee football is for Butch to have support through next year. I know it aint gonna happen but its what would be best.

I don't either. Too much money to just walk away. He'll force them to fire him. I don't think he's all that worried about being fired. Coaches get hired and fired all the time. Most don't leave that kind of money on the table..

Never seen so many posters happy that their team sucked just to shove their opinion in others' faces. I guess it's their time to shine

Butch was treated like a modern day 5 star. He was treated like royalty first couple years. When he didn't meet expectations he was treated like a scrub. Lol

I think Butch knew there would be pressure and scrutiny. I think he thought there would be more of a grace period from the fans given the state of the program he took over.
