Criticize him all you want for the loss Saturday. We botched a sure win, criticism is very justified.

But quit whining that he "always makes excuses". After OU he took complete responsibility and he did again today.

JONES: I'm the head football coach. I'm responsible for everything and anything. So I say put it all on my shoulders.

JONES: In order to improve we must own it. That's on me first.

#MediaMonday: Arkansas Prep Begins - University of Tennessee Official Athletic Site

Jones accepts full responsibility. Hopefully he really believes that, and will learn from his mistakes.

But quit saying he doesn't take responsibility. He does.

Based on other things he has said, he hasn't taken full responsibility.

Bet you are dedicated at your job. Never mess up. Or mess around on the int3rwebz during the work day while you should be earning your pay... oh wait. You're on VN right now just like me. Maybe you should call a meeting and own it. Better than Jones did.

I read the OP and have yet to see an apology or him owning up to his bad coaching, which has been pointed out all over the sports media and not just by "the Worst Fanbase" on Volnation! :neener2:

The fact is he blew it, he knows it, we know it, and everybody else with any football IQ knows it too! :banghead2:

He says he takes responsibility and wants it all on him. Don't worry it is.

If you say you take responsibility, but then are questioned on OBVIOUS mistakes, and you deny that they were mistakes and you did the right thing, then you aren't taking any responsibility at all. You're saying you did everything right!!

I was hoping he would learn, but he hasn't learned after 4 such losses. 3 losses have occurred this season when teams were up by 13 or more in the 4th quarter. TWO of those have been Tennessee. He has coached horribly. NO way around it. He needs to admit real mistakes, not general responsibility.

im done *****ing about the Florida loss. it was clearly 150% on him, he owned it and thats that! dont expect to talk about it any more. Arkansas is next and coach better have 'em ready to play. there is NO one on this schedule that isnt 50/50 right now. we arent better or worse than anyone, it sucks to say that.

We have improved from last year. But, so have the other guys. With this talent there is 0 excuse for losing to anyone on our schedule save Alabama and Georgia. even then, we should play them close and have a chance. Period. anything less than 8 wins this season and our boy is on the hot seat, fow show.

Probe me wrong Butch, i want to see a statue of you by Neyland one day.

it's easy to talk in generalities. I can take full responsibility for the game, too. It's on me.

I'd rather hear some specifics.

That's not really taking responsibility for any mistakes he made. Its just saying that as the head guy, any mistakes by others are his ultimate responsibility.

In fact, its kind of the opposite of taking direct responsibility for anything he did wrong, himself.

Why is there any question about who is responsible for the loss. Who else BUT the coach in this one?

That is a generic coach's comment. I'm still not convinced that he realizes how terrible he managed that game and that scares me.

I sure as hell wouldn't if my salary was 7 figures and in a super competitive field...

The problem is that at this point it goes beyond accepting responsibility. This is not the 1st, or 2nd, or 3rd time this has happened (although this may be the worst).

We were in positions to win (and absolutely should have won) the following games during CBJ's tenure at Tennessee and lost every one.

2013 - Georgia, Vanderbilt
2014 - Georgia, UF, Missouri
2015 - Oklahoma, UF

The point is that this has gone on for long enough and many fans want consequences. You can tell everyone that you accept responsibility and will do better next time, but that has little meaning unless you actually put those words into actions. Fans want to see the repercussions of Jones failing to "do better next time."

Taking responsibility...
When he says we are 1 play away does he mean he and his staff are one play call away or does he mean the players missed one play? Or both?

I can see both but UT is really one ideological change away.

Butch likes the approach of confirming the teams we are playing are very good. Then he follows with excuses for the Vols like youth. This must change to him praising and elevating the Vols and talking less about the respect he has for other teams.

When you coach to save face and not to lose the players feel it, believe it and ultimately take that persona on. Thus this team when leading is never the aggressor they are always playing conservatively when leading late in games.

Or I could just say the lack of balls Butch has is shrinking his players testies.

Many have said this, and it bears repeating. Generic/vague/nebulous "accountability" is 100% different than a humble, specific admission of mistakes and/or botched decisions.

He's done plenty of the former and none of the latter. Maybe it's because he views it as a sign of weakness.

I would look at it as a HUGE positive if he just said "You know what, we should've dialed up Ethan Wolf on 3rd and 6"; or "we should've gone for 2 on the last TD".

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I think this is now shame # 5 and he still hasn't learned.

Question is... How much more shame will it take for this administration to "snap and clear" this current staff and start fresh? I believe Jones has a whole bunch more shame in him for the sidelines. We'll see it this Saturday no doubt.

He plays not to lose, big time recruiter but my problem is Florida's quarterback threw for 120 plus yards on 4th down and we only rushed 3 on the last touchdown.

you guys are a bit harsh. the man accepted responsibility.

the loss sucked and still does. but this guy is still the HFC at Tennessee. if y'all want to be miserable the rest of the season, its a free world. personally i like Butch and want to see him succeed so badly it makes me sick.

after sitting through two total asshats and wanting to puke for nearly a decade of Tennessee football,, this is the closest we have had to being worth half a **** in football. if we turn the corner, awesome. were too far along in the trip to turn back now. its either give him a chance or hang em up mid season and be 4 more years in the hole.
