Butch should be more like Saban.

bottom line is this:

Saban is a hell of a coach wether we like it or not. He may arguably be one of the best all time. No one can argue this.

Even Saban surrounds himself with the most knowledgable and talented people he can find to help him win.

Butch is no where close to the same league as a coach (thus far) and even a number of times this season alone the sportscasters analysts et all question his judgement and decision making. So great game day coach thus far he is not.
This line of thinking means if he does NOT emulate Saban and fails to surround himself with more knowledgable and talented people around him....

He/we are screwed.

He must drop the ego, and find the right guy to lead the offense

Easy on the condescension NC, we all know it took Saban awhile to cut his teeth at lesser programs. Most do. Nothing sad about it.

The discussion has been more where Saban was after a decade of "learning" and then correcting those who have mis characterized his record. To summarize, before even getting to Bama, he had multiple conference titles and a national title to go along with a .679 win percentage. Some have compared Butch's and Saban's record after 10 years which, quite honestly, just isn't fair to Butch.

I'm referring strictly to the first-pagers who didn't get it at all.

I don't really disagree. Saban @ MSU was competing in a much better conference than Jones @ Cincy, so I'd expect him more win-ready when arriving at LSU than Jones at TN. It's not Jones fault that he isn't at that level, but rather the people who hired him if that was the expectation.

Otherwise, it is what it is. Whether he has Saban potential? - I don't care. We don't have the talent base of LSU, FL, GA, TX - even SC - nor the base & legacy of AL football. It's going to be tougher at TN. I DO want to see a guy that wins or only narrowly misses the East 4-5 times a decade and wins an SEC every five years. Or better. I have reservations Jones is that guy, but really, we don't know.

Given that, any comparisons to Saban except to highlight he wasn't a fully formed coaching god from the womb, is unfair to 99.99% of coaches.

Every non-Alabama fan base in America (except maybe Ohio State) can safely say: "[Insert Coach's Name] should be more like Saban."

We aren't the only one. But there is one problem. There is only one Saban.

If you don't watch football, don't bother posting.
Briles may not be coaching today, but he will be soon. A great coach can murder a girl during the Rose Bowl on the 50 yd line and still get a job. Just ask Patrino.
You're seriously going to cherry pick one year on Patterson? He's made monster teams from 0* players just like Peterson.

I think our discussion was a comparison of Saban and these coaches you brought up. I never said they were bad coaches. They're quite good but none of them have achieved what Saban has. Do I like it that Saban is so successful? Heck no!! I hope Clemson drills them on 1/9, Bammer goes 0-12 in 2017, and Saban retires or gets fired.

Are we really comparing arguably the greatest college football coach of all time to Butch Jones?

I think it was an attempt to give perspective. And while I don't foresee Butch Jones ever having a moment of enlightenment that allows him to become the next Saban, I also don't want to see a bunch Vol fans going down on Bama's midget in front of all of their bandwagon fans either.

That MAC title....awfully impressive.

Focus xpsyclonex....... after 10 years as a head coach, how many SEC titles and national titles did/does each coach have? Answer.....Saban 2 SEC titles and 1 SEC title. Butch?.....

I know this is going to be seemed as a copout. But Saban had to compete against Spurrier's success early on. Butch is being compared same amount of time as Saban but winning SEC now with established Saban is wayyy more difficult than outperforming the SEC premier coach in Spurrier. I'm wanting to say Saban won the NC while Spurrier was in NFL too. If so then Fulmer was the most decorated SEC coach. Way tougher path nowadays for Butch to get an SEC title imo.

Chris Peterson, Art Briles,gary Patterson,

You wanna show your work here? Should be interesting.

Besides obvious titles comparison of these guys and Saban and what I'm thinking goes hand in hand. Those guys are offensive minded which can win you alot of games. Saban is defensive minded. We all know the old sayings. Offense wins ganes. Or offense sells tickets. Defense wins Championships.
