The hype over this recruiting class is interesting. I find it hard to believe that they could be better than 2014 and 2015. I wonder if people just had low expectations for them and they exceeded that? Or if this group is really that talented?

Either way this is great news for us. I had zero expectations of true freshmen contributing to this team. If so many of these freshmen are pushing for playing time, then that means we'll be even better than I thought we would be.

15-0 is looking better by the day.

4 individuals that will redshirt? Guarantano and 3 offensive linemen?

Devonte Brooks probably. Definitely the late signee DE from Atlanta area. Alexis Johnson?

Butch said "4 are planned". But, I'm sure 4-6 more are possibilities based on needs / development as the season progresses.

They don't like to 'plan' RS years bc it deteriorates the ability to motivate improvement during the season.

Butch had a gleam in his eye as he discussed this last recruiting class. His lowest rated of the 3. He said it is the best one yet, at this point. Pretty big words right there.

As mentioned above, he was clear that you can't judge a class until 3-4 years. What a Deborah Downer that will be for some.

Or maybe you're not as good at evaluating talent as you think you are?

What is interesting to me about the '16 class is despite finishing around 15th in the country, the composite star rating was actually higher than our '15 class that finished ranked 5th.

Love the Life in the Shadows theme. They may be in the background as far as recognition and media pub but true Vol fans realize and respect how far this group has come. I can't wait to see this unit put it all together on Saturdays this year.

If I had to guess it'd be

JG
Ryan Johnson/Nathan Niehous
Ja'Quan Blakely
Devante Brooks

I might toss CFA into that mix as well. With Hurd, Kamara and Kelly the need for him at RB this year won't be critical.

Give him a year in the S&C program and to learn from a couple of the best backs in CFB right now.

"on App State: They definitely have our attention. We have started installing for them, and we'll get more into them as the week goes along."

Installing? Is this just a weird way of saying something or is this some type of football-speak that I'm unfamiliar with. Seems like weird turn of a phrase.

Installing the offensive and defensive gameplans for that specific team.

Someone is catching feelings I see. :whistling:

Anyway I was talking purely in terms of numbers. 2016 is a smaller class. Hard to believe it can surpass 2015 or 2014 simply because those classes had mostly hits and lots of numbers.

I'm guessing the coaches feel the top end talent in 2016 might be better. Which isn't surprising cause I was high on guys like Guarantano, Byrd, and Kongbo. Warrior is the only one that has surprised me. I thought he would be good but not Eric Berry good.
