Butch needs to stop referring to his players as "these kids"

This isn't a gripe about the game, it's always bothered me and I think I'm just disgruntled enough after today's game to vent about it.

But does Barnett look like a kid to you?? Does Hurd? Dobbs knows more about pretty much anything than you ever will, he's not a kid.

Stop patronizing your players. It's condescending. When I was a college student I certainly didn't want anyone thinking of me as a "kid" or referring to me as a "kid"

Sorry, rant over. I just heard him say "I feel sorry for these kids" in his presser and I'm thinking of how much that would get under my skin at their age, especially after a loss.

Sorry, Chat.

But none of those guys are 40. ☺

They are old enough to vote and old enough to go fight for our country, yep they are grown men. Those "kids" have been giving their all for Tennessee, and I thank them for that.

Go Vols!

Wow - of all things to complain about.

I know hey.

What I want to see changed is the fan experience at the concession stand... when I get a coke why can't the vendor say Go Vols to me, I mean that just seems like a friendly thing to do and shows me that they care about me and want me to come back... geeeze.

Are you serious?? or are you just TRYING to find something to GRIPE ABOUT???:crazy:

These KIDS are 18-23 years old....CBJ is nigh on 50 years old....and probably a father-figure to MOST of 'em....

I don't understand WHY you can't put on your adult pants and see that it is a TERM OF AFFECTION!!!!

:salute:

While I'm not terribly bothered by the use of "kids", I do contrast this with the military, which refers to enlisted personnel of exactly this age range as "men" and "women." Publicly referring to them as adults indicates that they are expected to take their jobs seriously and that they are respected for this, even if their NCO's and CO's might call them kids in private.

Calling players "young men" acknowledges that they are being called upon to approach college football as the difficult and complex challenge that it is. "Kids" sort of brings to mind flag football in the backyard on Thanksgiving while waiting for the turkey to brown.

Hardly the end of the world, I realize. Also, I completely understand that college football, as dangerous as it can be, in no way approaches the gravity of military service.

Think of how good the Vols have got it. They have a coach who wants for their success, not just on the football field but in life. Coach Jones, who fell to his knees when Jauan Jennings hauled in that Hail Mary pass to secure victory in Athens. Butch, who walks out locking arms with his team. One team. One program. One university. Tennessee.

Then, cast an eye west towards Alabama. They have Lucifer's Vessel as their head coach. His soul is bound for the lake of fire, and he'd be happy for the damnation of those hapless innocents who come to Bama just hoping to play football. Yeah, they win football games and are awarded championships, but at what cost? Setting aside the risk to their immortal souls, they compete as automatons for starts and playing time until they are jettisoned into the remainder of their lives. The only thought given to them is when the Devil demands his due.

I'll take Butch and Vols for Life. You can keep Saban and Beelzebub.

GBO.

Anything is better than individuals which he uses constantly.
Who talks like that?
Have you ever called somebody an individual?
I know that I haven't.

Now, if we had beaten Bama...he could have called me warmed over Shiite and I'd have taken it. :p
