Butch Jones speaks

Sure sounds like a lot of excuses to me. I think there is a lot of work to be done with the play-calling. Dobbs decision-making coming into play also I think. One quick look downfield and then he wants to run, somewhere, anywhere. Also disappointed in the O line not doing a better job of blocking. Grateful for a "lucky" win. Lucky in that Hurd recovered the winning TD in the end zone. It almost looked like Dobbs tossed it forward to me. Yes, it was jarred out of his hands but sure looked like he gave it an extra push forward. Who knows?

We were VERY lucky to win this game. A decent place kicker and we are 0-1 in game we were favored by 20 points. A loss and Butch might never recover. Maybe this was just a case of reading your news clippings all summer. Maybe.

Yep, a very LUCKY escape. Their field goal kicker saved the game for us.

At this point I dont care what Butch has to say anymore. I dont watch his pressers and whatever he had to say tonight is just the same BS we've heard a hundred times before.

We get beat in Bristol and Butch needs to go.

Butch Jones talking about this teaming using this to help them grow up made me want to puke. It's year 4. If we haven't grown up by now Butch then you will never have a team that isn't growing in your eyes.

I think he got hit so hard he thought it was his kidney flying out of his belly button. That was a textbook hit.

Everything went RIGHT to get the W. Any of the fumbles go the other way, it's a loss. If their kicker didn't choke, it's a loss. Their coach doesn't choke at the end of the 4th qtr, loss. Hurd doesn't bail out Dobbs in the endzone, probable loss.

That said, still goes in the W column. Be thankful, send their coach a thank you note and move on.

Botch is an excuse and cliche machine. Of all that was bad in this game, the worst aspect was coaching. We were not adequately prepared for this game both mentally and strategically while Appy State was very well prepared. The game plan and play calling were just awful, and our adjustments were terrible as usual.

If Sutton doesn't fumble the punt, if Williams doesn't drop the ball in the end zone, if Reeves Maybin doesn't get tossed, if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle. Gheesh.

I thought his responses to most of the questions were OK. However, Kamara's lack of touches had nothing to do with the "flow of the game" and everything to do with ****ty play calling by DeBord. Kamara must be more involved in the offense from the start.

This is Volnation. The only ifs and buts allowed are the ones resulting in an L.

Reminds of the people who consistently bring up the UGA drop last year's but always neglect the Hurd fumble from the 1.

I think the reason why Dobbs is a terrible decision maker sometimes is because we don't have a QB coach. I don't know what their specific roles are, but a QB coach can't hurt.

“First game of the year is always the game of unknowns."

Not when you have the most returning starters in all of FBS...

Vols are doomed.... All of them suck..... Fire the coaches.... Yah yah yah.

Some of you need a heavy dose of antipsychotics

Saying maybe this will help the team grow up is a f-ing joke. You have upperclassmen across the board who have 2-3 years worth of starting time under their belt; how many years before we're mature/grown-up?

When he says stupid ****, his jock sniffers can expect others to call him on his stupid ****.

Help football team grow?? Lol we've been young every year he's been here according to him. Calvin Ridley lit it up as freshman. How bout Marcus lattimore or Jamal Lewis?? Youth and growing is yet another excuse. At the college level if u get coached up u can light it up from get go. I personally think Dave hart knows what is coming and wants out before it hits. Face it folks we got the ron zook of tn. The question is, can we take advantage? If we get rid of current staff and hire a winner not a cliche machine we can be on top next year

The team was cocky, and it majorly showed early on and punched him in the face. Nobody can call a good game when guys can't block, QB is almost robotic, Hurd couldn't break many tackles, and bad decisions were made. The offense couldn't execute.

I lost some respect for CBJ tonight. I agree that App St is a very good team. However, with him failing to say this offense sucked out loud tonight cost him some credibility in my eyes.

CARL, you are spot on. I had a jacka$$ behind me at the game that wanted DOBBS pulled in the 1st quarter. You all want to blame the coaches but blame the players. APPY St players ran right through their arm tackles, and these guys have been shown how to tackle since pee wee ball. The players were the ones on he field not making plays. The O line did not block well. DOBBS was under pressure all night and the backs could not get a good run going for dodging some defender. The coaches are not on the field. The player have to be held accountable for their play. If the O line had blocked maybe we have some big runs. But stop with the Legion of Doom crap.
