Butch Jones - Recruiting

He only started 2 players that he recruited this past year (besides injuries)

Offense:
QB - Legaux - JR
RB - Winn - RS SR
TE - Kelce - SR
WR - Thompkins -SR
WR - Chisum - SO
WR - Mcclung - JR
OL - Bujnoch - RS JR
OL - Hooey - SR
OL - Longo - JR
OL - Lefeld - RS SO
OL - Sprague - RS JR

Defense:
DL - Dempsey - SR
DL - Giordano - RS SR
DL - Stewart - RS SR
DL - Williams - SR
LB - Blair - SR
LB - Bomar - SR
LB - Temple - SO
DB - Cheatham - RS SR
DB - Chenault - JR
DB - Drane - JR
DB - Frey - RS SR

So, 2 of the 22 Starters were recruited by Kelly, not him...

Does this not worry anyone else????

So, Sonny dykes won with dooleys recruits.

The 2010 class was Kelly recruits, and RS So have been there 3 years. Only 2 starters would be labeled his recruits. I'm worried, but we'll see how it turns out

Dooley was not a good game time coach. CBJ has shown he is!

I think all this recruiting ranking business is being taken out of context. The Big East is a 3-star league at the TOP. Football revenues in the Big East are around $158m combined for all the teams compared to $759m for all of the SEC. The Cincy football program generates around $15.4m per year compared to TN which generates about $53m. Cincy is usually 3rd best at recruiting in the Big East and recently TN has been around 6th in the SEC.

It doesn't take a lot of intelligence to make comparisons and then conclude that the Big East cannot compete with the SEC in football whether it's in recruiting or on the field of play. It's obvious and universal.

I don't know how CBJ is going to fare on the recruiting trail or on the field. Given his environment of competition in the past he's been able to ride the waves of an established program. His tenure with us could be a bigger challenge not because it's the big leagues but rather because we are starting from such a low point. Time will tell.

2010 Kelley 61st, 2011 Jones 42nd, 2012 Jones 34th, and 2013 Jones 62nd. Not exactly an impressive resume.

The 2013 recruiting class is not final. If you have ever paid attention to the last few weeks leading up to NSD you would know that the best recruiters get big prospects and can improve their ranking quickly.

So throwing out the recruiting class that isn't finished. We see a clear increase in recruiting class ranking.

A truer comparison is how he recruited compared to their conference. The Cincinatti 2010 class was 7th in the big east, in 2011 it was 3rd, and in 2012 it was 2nd.

Now can he translate his Big East success to the SEC... only time will tell, but for now I will rest easy with his resume and pass judgement once we see his results at Tennessee!

GO VOLS!:rock:

I looked at where Cincy's recruits came from in 2011 & 2012. Given that the staff will presumably be different at UT this may not mean much but here's the data.

Total signed for the 2 years = 54

Ohio = 18
Florida = 11
Georgia = 7 (all in 2011)
Indiana = 6
California = 5 (all JUCOs I think)
Michigan = 2
Tennessee = 2
Pennsylvania = 2 (all JUCOs I think)
Kentucky = 1

Funny that guys like this see things so black & white & yet presumes a guy 'sux' & he has only had the job a couple of days. Least we know who the dimwits are who call these local radio shows.

We are currently ranked #24 (nationally). If we move up the board over the next few weeks that will be a good sign. If he can get some commitments from some 4 stars that will be a good sign. The further up the board toward the top ten the better we should feel. I hate being ranked #11 out 14 teams in this conference behind even Vandy.

For those who are angry or depressed right now, I completely understand. At least we arent going into this winter with Dooley as our coach, think about that for a minute. Last winter was not much fun for me knowing we had held onto Dooley after the Kentucky debacle.

No, I'm saying he's never had to play his own recruits.

At CMU, he followed Kelly, and played Kelly's recruits for 3 years and left. The past 3 years with his recruits CMU has sucked.

He followed Kelly at Cincy, and has played Kelly's recruits for 3 years and left.

He's never had to play his own recruits, he always leaves before he has to. I want him to succeed, but, look at it from an unbiased perspective. It's a little scary

So, he improved recruiting rankings and won with someone else's recruits. If he comes here, wins with our current players, and improves recruiting, will you be unhappy?

I'm not sure that I share your concerns...
