I remember when many said he was just his shadow or had only succeeded on Kelly's scraps. Butch Jones struck out on his own in Knoxville and the two coaches couldn't be headed in more opposite directions.
The last time Notre Dame started a season this poorly, it finished the season 3-9. That was back in 2007 when the Irish started the season 0-5 after finishing 10-3 the previous year. The 2016 Irish are now 1-3 following last year's 10-3 record.

To be fair Kelly did make a National Title game. But. Yeah I always thought Kelly was overrated. They're stinking it up this year.

Don't know if I'm ready to go there. I haven't really followed ND, but didn't they kick some key players off the team? No excuse for losing to Duke at home, but is that a factor?

Also, Kelly took ND to the national championship. Granted they have an easier path to get there but that's a feather in his cap that Butch doesn't have.

Hey now, Cutcliffe is a very good coach and has done great things with that Duke program.
