Butch Jones: ‘We are getting closer to naming a starting quarterback’

I'm not sure how Worley interacts with his other teammates. I just remember him "clapping" when he saw Peterman struggle. He seems like the shy type that doesn't talk crap, but says it to someone else later. Basically, he doesn't seem to "man-up".

Peterman kept at it after all what he's gone through. He has WAY more heart than Worley and Dobbs IMO.

I think he was clapping in the encouraging "let's go" manner not the malicious manner you're talking about. He's got great character. Spoke well of Peterman after the game too - never threw him under the bus.

Consider this, when your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd string QBs are battling for the starting job it normally means their talent level is closer to them all being 3rd string, not 1st.
Really? Since you are using this as your premise to be negative and to criticize these young men... Can you demonstrate it is "normally" the case? Mizzou had a 3 way battle last year that produced Franklin and Mauk... and had Berkstresser been healthy you probably wouldn't know Mauk's name.

The starter will be whoever makes the fewest mistakes,
True.
not who has the best arm, footwork, or potential.
And those things are mutually exclusive how? It is likely that the guy who makes the fewest mistakes will have good footwork, throw the ball well, and.... they ALL have potential to be good SEC QB's.

This is going to be a run heavy, short quick pass team behind a questionable line.
Maybe... but probably not. This will be an O in line with Jones' philosophy. They have deep threats and WILL find ways to use them... they have to.

As for the OL, hard to say but you cannot call them "questionable" any more than you can call them "solid". We don't know because it is a new unit. We DO know there's some talent... and it IS SEC quality talent.

Yep, we have 3 extremely high character guys in Worely, Peterman and Dobbs.

Worley will be the starter. If he hadn't got hurt last year it wouldn't even be a question. He got better as the year went on beating SC and basically Georgia. He would have remained starter the rest of last season and been the starter this year. Nothing has changed. He has the most experience and will be the starting QB.

A week ago I was certain he was ahead of Dobbs. I am not sure that Peterman isn't closing ground. It is getting more interesting... and I believe that to be a good sign. If a guy who improved like Worley did last year can be passed then the guy who passes him can only make them better.

So good that neither Florida nor Florida State even offered him a scholarship according to Rivals.

I'm not sold. He looked pathetic.

He did have a rough start. I acknowledged that.

I don't see a great deal of dishonor in being an offensive player that Muschamp overlooked at this point. FSU signed Winston that year. I like Nate... but that one is pretty much a no brainer. Winston was clearly the better recruit.

Rivals called him the #8 QB in the country also. Go figure.

I'm not predicting success. I don't know if he really can do it when the lights come on. All I am saying is that he isn't devoid of talent and "potential"...

Judging someone's "heart" from this distance is risky business.

This is a stretch and especially since his teammates elected him to the leadership council...

It'll be nice to see this sorted out. What has surprised me more than anything has been the performance of Peterman. He looks to be the solid # 2 and I know few of us even had him in the mix.

Agreed. There are a lot of good points in this thread....but naturally, after CBJ names a starter, the new, "CBJ is wrong" thread will emerge and we can start all over!

But hey, that is what this board is for!

I believe that Worley will be the starter but if Butch did choose Peterman it would give him a couple weeks to work with the 1's primarily to get acclimated. It's getting close to time to start game planning for those Aggies.

Peterman's attitude adjustment of just going out and having fun and playing football may pay dividends, after all, it's a game and having fun is what it's all about. Personally I don't care who the starting QB is, I'd just like to see team 118 stop the bleeding (4 consecutive loosing seasons) and get to a bowl game.
Go Vols

I'm afraid at this point in fall camp it is much too early to start preparing for Utah State.....I would say that there is still much to accomplish yet in fall camp. Start preparing for the Aggies prior to game week as usual.

I will roll with whoever they decide to start...Worley, Dobbs or Peterman....I just want us to have a decent year....Go Vols
