I thought I saw it in the 3rd quarter. I'm pretty sure of it now. Butch has lost his team in Year Four.

I think everybody likes Butch, including the players. He's a better man than Stooley and he does a hell of a lot more right than Stooley -- at least Monday to Friday.

But right now, the players know his offensive scheme will never work in the SEC. They also know that Butch is too stubborn to work with his player's strengths - he's always going to make his players fit his system. Instead of embracing the Dobbs dual threat, they coached him not to run this year. What they have done with Jalen Hurd should be a crime. Same could probably be said for Kamara and every wide out who has committed to Tennessee. If you were unsure about the BSiA Saturday coaching before - this is the game that links all the rest together. Can't blame talent and youth anymore.

It's Year Four. Every player on the roster is his. It's his team and they have lost faith in the Butch-fense.

I fear this is the game that sends us on the inexorable spiral. Butch has led us out of darkness but he can take us no further.

Buckle up Vols and let's hope the new AD has the vision and the guts to make the tough decisions.

Cancel the season :eek:lol:
The leaders on this team are not quitters.
Missing Sutton, JRM and Kamara hurt.
This team is beat up that's all.

There is no doubt that the loss of several team leaders has had a negative impact. I believe it contributed to the a&m loss. Bama just drubbed a tired beat up team.

After the BW, and getting a couple of players back, there was far more talent on our team than SC has on theirs. There was no excuse for the way this game played out. Our OL has been pushed around like they are HS players all season. Hurd has been used in a scheme that will only net him 2 or 3 yards on an average play. Our wide outs are used more for blocking than providing any type of down-field threat to loosen the box. Dobbs has had his legs amputated by the offensive game calling. Our DB's get burnt on every downfield pass play.

Our problem is coaching.

5* Preston Williams leaves team in mid season, can't play again until 2018. PW was never reported as a "problem child." What message does this send? Internal meltdown is my read.

I agree, OP. As much as I hate it, I agree.

The same fire we saw against FL, GA, and even A&M is gone. Losing our big name starters is hard, but this game was easily within our grasp....we just didn't have the fight to grasp it. That's why this loss is so hard to digest for me.

And no, I'm not putting this on the players. But there is a huge disconnect right now between the coaches and our players.

It's interesting that the loss of Kamara is now seen as so significant (I agree by the way). Because you honesty can't have it both ways. If you think that Lyle is less accountable for the disappointing season due in part because of the loss of a backup RB, you have to explain why such a crucial player was a backup to begin with.

Injuries is just this year's youth excuse. Next year it'll be something else (lost too many starters, unfavorable schedule, breaking in a new starting QB-it's already beginning on here).

so with all this and i agree with some of these posts....if Butch would grow a pair, could he "fire" Debord in mid-season? Yea he may not be the entire problem but since he got here we have gone backwards!!!

Debord makes Bajakian look like Josh McDaniels.

Yes, Williams leaves, the line won't block, one running back won't run hard, the other is supposed to be injured. Team 120 will be known as the team that quit. But, the question remains why?

It is clear to the unbiased eye that the offense has lost faith in the system, the coaches, or both.

This lies squarely at the feet of Butch Jones and his staff. If nothing changes there, neither will the results going forward.

I'm a VFL, not a BFFL.

Go Vols.

There is no coach on staff that has earned their paycheck this year. We are dominated up front on both sides of the ball every game, our slow start point to our game plan on both sides of the ball, Shoop has really disappointed and our back end is atrocious. I did see Warrior lay some serious wood last night however. Colton was back on roller skates last night, whoever is calling on field assignments missed a ton last night. If Butch wants to keep his job, every single coach with the exception of Shoop gets canned. Shoop survives ONLY because of injuries.Let me tell you he is no defensive genius that's for sure. I think every team we have played has scored first this year.

I don't think Butch has lost the whole team (he seems to still have guys like Dobbs, Barnett, etc.), but I do think he has lost a significant portion of it.

It is obvious that most of these players are not responding to the coaching. And they haven't all season. This SC game is not some new phenomenon. This team has underperformed since the opening kick against App State.

I suspect that there is something really rotten on the inside of this program right now.
