This at least tells everyone that they can go about their business today, he isn't getting fired today. Less of a chance he wins out as well so I wouldn't worry about that either,

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Tennessee football coach Butch Jones’ career future remains in limbo in the wake of Alabama’s 45-7 victory over the Vols on Saturday afternoon.

The No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0 SEC) poured it on Tennessee (3-4, 0-4 SEC) over the final 35 minutes, breaking open a 7-0 game with two touchdowns in the final five minutes of the second quarter.

The Vols’ lopsided defeat will trigger another week of speculation about coach Butch Jones’ future in Knoxville.

Some national analysts, including Tennessee graduate and SEC Network host Paul Finebaum, have Jones already gone.

A source close to the Tennessee program, however, told SEC Country before the game Saturday that an Alabama win would not necessarily make Jones’ termination imminent.

“The Kentucky game will be critical,” the source said.

Currie:

“I’m very proud of the job that our staff has done in rebuilding our program, and Coach Jones,” Currie told The Athletic on Sept. 21. “People get hung up in speculation before they really know anything about what they’re talking about sometimes.”

Let's go wildcats then. If Butch can save his job by winning all remaining games then I can't possibly get behind him. I know it sounds ridiculous, but if he is retained next year we will have another year of this crap.

There is no way he saves his job, the fan base would completely give up and stop going to games. It would cost the university money and that's what it is all about to them. He is done he should have already been fired!! And if that's the truth then GO BIG BLUE

Sept 21.. A LONG TIME AGO, and that date just happens to be two days before Tennessee's offense recorded the last TD scored. None since then. I'll bet Currie isn't as chipper now. Plus he's getting a little heat from the $$$ people (I am guessing, and it's a good guess)

I hear you. I'm not a bandwagon fan considering I've watched every game even through all this crap, but I don't think I can handle another year of Butch.

They’re going to bring him back if he gets to 6-6. Just watch.

As Lyle would say, “F*** all of them.”

Wouldn't surprise me. They're just banking on the gullible fans that will show up to see whatever crap product they run out there. They're the reason the UTAD is so arrogant..

He will be here through LSU at least. Loss to them and an interim is put in place before Vandy. Or at least this is the belief of 2 friends in UT admin.

This just shows the new administration is no better than the last one. Should have hired Blackburn.

I am still on wait and see mode. Maybe Currie waiting will pay off. Maybe the new coach will be thinking "Nice to have an AD that has my back"

A big name coach may frown upon an AD who makes quick decisions.

I think they should have a coach in pocket then make announcement. New coach could immediately reach out to recruits that he wants to keep.

Not sure ridiculing the fan base as uninformed rubes is a smart choice right now, Mr. Currie. Almost as dumb as keeping this circus going.

I don’t like this crap anymore than you do friend. Just repeating what I was told. But again, wouldn’t surprise me to see him finish out the whole year.

I readily admit that I have no idea of everything that goes on behind the scenes in the UT AD, but I can’t possibly imagine how Currie could believe it’s in the best interest of the football program to allow Butch back for another year regardless of what the remaining games look like.

It's fascinating that, despite it being brought to light, everyone on here is concerned with a quote that happened a month ago.

This makes sense. I have a feeling Jones is just playing the game he has to play to insure the buyout. I have a gut feeling he probably can't wait to be fired. We all know it's time.

My son was at the game yesterday. I didn't see this, I'd already turned off my TV. He told me that on Bama's last touchdown, two VOL defenders were injured, one close to the goal line in front of the student section. Jones walked over to the injured player and a loud repeated chorus came from the Bama student section: "Keep Butch Jones, Keep Butch Jones".

With each week, it get's worse. A firing might be like a mercy killing now.
