I'm putting the Vandy loss on the defense - don't know what's going on (injuries I know) but Shoop has a good enough reputation they can probably fix a lot of that in the offseason. I'm putting the South Carolina loss on Dobbs having an off night (throws in the dirt). They need to clean up the penalties and the turnovers. Beating Florida and Georgia was awesome. He sees everything we see and has plenty to work on - let's see what he can get done by next year.

I will always be a vol fan but these days I will focus more time playing my guitar. At least I am accomplishing something with my spare time.

The defense failed to defend the perimeter, lost contain 32 times in the last three games giving up a minimum of 10 yards each time. :ermm:

Your delusional. Butch can't fix anything. He can't even do simple math at the end of a game. You need 11 points kick the FG. Now lets help you realize Butch can't fix anything. #'s sometime help people. He's 5-14 against the top 25, 1-12 against the top 15, 3-9 against Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Here's another one 2-2 against Vanderbilt. He's the first coach since 1922-23 to lose two games against Vanderbilt. He's a lame duck coach. The news from Knoxville this morning should've been BUTCH JONES FIRED! But we are still stuck with a used car salesman as a HC.

I realize that this may not go over very well, BUT the stats you gave are correct, however; since the cupboard was bare and he had to get the young players experience to compete in the SEC, I disregard the first two seasons.
I see the four close loses from last season and the excessive injuries this season. I am not blind so I do see the bad coaching from bUTch also and how it contributed to us even being in bad game situations.
It is obvious to me that we need a q.b. coach. Dobbs improved a little each season but not much. That is due to coaching or lack of coaching.

Still not Clay. I didn't watch Clay. I posted those #'s up a week ago. Just a fan that has seen the reality of the Butch Jones debacle for awhile now. Going back to the melt down against Oklahoma and his "I was confused statement".

The cupboard is bare excuse has been used up and absolutely cannot be used in year 4.

Recruiting should have brought in players to fill the cupboard and injuries happen to every team. Excessive amount of injuries? Why is that? Hmmmm.

Butch is 2-2 against Vanderbilt the last four years. His two SEC east losses were to the two bottom dwelling teams in the east. Dooley beat him when he had one of his best Cincinnati teams. The guy is not going to get it done. Florida is in Atlanta again this year. Their NEW coach has got them there in his first TWO years. Butch cannot get it done here. Maybe somewhere else in a lesser conference, but not here.

Im putting fielding a poorly coached team for the majority of the season on the coaches.

Pretty much. Many wanted to overlook the poor football early because it didn't result in Ls. It didn't get fixed and eventually cost them 2 games at the end that took us from Atl to New Orleans to.....Nashville?

For the OP, what have you seen from Butch the past 4 years to think he can fix it?

For me, I've yet to see any moment whatsoever where coaching helped us. Butch has a set of charts that absolutely no one else in the game of football uses nor wants to. 4 years and I'm not sure I can name one unit that has actually improved over time, meaning all the talent that has come in hasn't been coached at all in their entire time at Rocky Top.

If the defense doesn't have depth, why the hell are you running a hurry-up offense? Shorten the game and rest them.

You're not being fair. If you're going to say everything that went wrong was coaching then you can give some credit when things go right - those are the moments where "coaching helped us". I was sick after South Carolina and Vanderbilt and I see all the concerns on the "near wins" but at the end of the day he went 8-4 - not the end of the world. Even championship coaches might have some 8-4 seasons. The results on paper are what need to be judged, not what we "feel". I know people think they can see the writing on the wall for next year but you can not get mad about what hasn't happened yet. That's not being an apologist that's just being fair.

Butch has looked nothing like a championship coach thus far. Fair?

but what is the excuse for the most part only ever playing to the level of your opponent? That is on the coaches.

We had 12-0 or 11-1 type talent and without extreme luck, we would be 6-6 right now and those loss to Appy State and Georgia in addition to South Carolina and Vandy... such powerhouses this year

There is always context to statistics.

I'm in the camp to give the staff one more year before pulling the plug. Knee jerk reactions are never a good idea.

12-0 talent? No.

11-1, before injuries yes. I think our two deep to begin the season was 11-1 talent. Unfortunately, more than half the two deep was hurt for most of the year.

No. I can't name one time coaching helped us. Recruiting talent has helped. But the game plan going into games and any adjustments made have never helped. We've overcome those odds to win what we have against inferior talent. Now, we're not even beating inferior talent.
