Butch can fix it

Player Development? Worse
Hiring/Retaining of Assistants? Worse
Game Day Coaching? Worse
Recruiting? Debatable

At some point you have to set your standards higher than "better than Dooley". Nearly any other football coach in college football can recruit better than Dooley.

If you really believe this then you're beyond reasonable or have zero knowledge.

Im not sure, but i do not believe any credence is given to the depth of the gaps. They just see if there is a gap.

does it matter if it does? that 4 year average also includes the newest and oldest rankings over that span...does it account for experience? maybe GA's average is higher because of hte most recent class? maybe those guys aren't seeing the field? TN's average includes it's oldest, highest ranked classes, that are seeing the field....

bottom line, while there may be a gap, the reality is it isn't just so wide anymore where you expect to lose to teams like GA, aTm, FL etc....you expect those games to be competitive, you don't go in to them thinking you're worlds better than they are, nor they world's better than you are.

Only if he hires a new OC and gets out of the way and lets his coordinators run their own show. He is not capable of calling the shots

This seems more the issue here. The more I see I am thinking that the coordinators are not allowed to hire their people under them nor are they allowed to call the shots on offense or defense. If he hires new coordinators on both sides, he needs to let them earn their money.

Youre asking questions that are valid but (from my understanding) do not give the matrix any significant boost in predictive power.

I chimed in when the notion we have the talent to be 11-1 was offered. None of this should be taken as a defense of CBJ's season. In fact, it is more of an indictment.

gotcha. i agree with that. i was never one of the guys that said we had the best team "ever" at Tennessee.

i do believe we had/have the talent to compete for the East.....not be 4-4, 2 games out....

bottom line for me...i don't think we lost all 4 games because of a talent differential. one, yes. obviously. the other 3......not so much.

I'm putting the Vandy loss on the defense - don't know what's going on (injuries I know) but Shoop has a good enough reputation they can probably fix a lot of that in the offseason. I'm putting the South Carolina loss on Dobbs having an off night (throws in the dirt). They need to clean up the penalties and the turnovers. Beating Florida and Georgia was awesome. He sees everything we see and has plenty to work on - let's see what he can get done by next year.

We don't lose to Vandy... end of story

In any data outliers occur both to the good and th bad.
But 70% in this type evaluation is damned impressive.

No it's not. Look at our schedule:

APP State
VT
Ohio
Florida
Georgia
TAM
Alabama
TN Tech
South Carolina
Kentucky
Missouri
Vanderbilt

70% of 12 is 8.4, Anyone, can look at this schedule, and tell you right now, which 8 games UT should win without consulting any stats what-so-ever.

The problem is that Butch still managed to not win all 8 of the games that there should have been no question about winning.
