Butch and Co. Recruiting Skills

We were in it for Green before CBJ got here. Kudos for getting in on Lawson. But keep in mind that 2nd place is the first loser.

2nd place is better than not in the conversation at all. Next years recruits see that stuff too. Might get them thinking about us also. Would I like for us to land every top recruit we go after? Absolutely. Couldn't ask for the staff to work any harder though. They were everywhere. Hopefully this work ethic is contageous. We will see if it produces results on the field or not. Only time will tell.

excuses, no way Auburn should beat TN in recruiting, we have better tradition and more resources. This is not a good sign in my opinion, now things may turn out better for TN, but Auburn as 2 5 stars now, Ole Miss is cleaning up. This is called a pattern. Again Butch may turn it around, but nobody should hold their breath until something is proven on the field.
We are not done yet..why is everyone so down..wait until after NSD.

I agree they've been working like no other staff I could remember. Hopefully that will payoff next year. While I am thankful for the men that have committed to play for the big orange, the level of recruits we have will not have us competing for SECe championships anytime soon.

It's pretty damn simple. We win 8 or more games next year, we'll reel in some of those that got off the line . We look like total sh** again, and nobody will bother with us.

Bingo! If UGA or USCe or both are a part of those 8 wins then recruiting will be very successful next year.

Dear Legion of Miserable,

Obama won again last year. The worst president in our nation's history got re-elected because he convinced 18-22 year olds to vote for him at an 80% clip. Auburn's NC is fresh and when they were sophomores they watched them win it. They don't do research they go with emotion. Alot of their parents were kids when they were born. Not trying to bash anyone but that is reality. Get a grip, back off the ledge, learn to whittle or something. We'll have a good class. Most importantly our class will have CLASS!! Let Butch be bUTch and coach whomever we get up. I bleed orange and am not afraid to get cut. Do you remember why we are called the VOLUNTEERS? Because we make the difference when it counts. We step up when others won't. Get the kids that understand that and more importantly want to be a part of it. That is what BUTCH is selling. Buy a telescope and some buttwipes if you can't understand.

Sincerely,
ALL VOL

I totally agree with that, they are giving everything they have. They have got to get some big wins on the field. It will make their job easier in recruiting.

I think the main difference between us and AU is the quality of class left behind by the former administration.

The only recruit they have gotten head to head from us that wasn't already a part of their class is Barber. I suppose Lawson might count but it sounds like he committed to the university more than the staff (as it should be).

I like all of our guys but I dont think we had as many recruits and our class wasn't as highly rated as theirs.

I am not saying CBJ and co. are terrible recruiters because they lost 1 recruit to the Barn. I am saying us not winning last year and not having time to recruit this year is not an excuse to have a pass.

CBJ will may be a GREAT recruiter, but right NOW we don't know.... but all these folks crowning CBJ as king recruiter is as premature as calling him a failure would be.

In a couple years come back to this question and we will see

I may or may not have hit the panic button too soon on this group. Guess we'll know in a couple of days' time. I do believe that when you look at how many elite prospects were open minded enough to check us out with CBJ at the helm, we'd easily be converting those same guys to commits and signees and looking at a Top 10 class if we'd opened the checkbook for a 5* coach and a couple of elite SEC recruiters. My gut tells me that, as usual, the Vols will be many people's bridesmaid this year and unlike some folks who buy into idea that getting a kid on campus or getting on his list is some kind of moral victory in recruiting I subscribe to the old school mentality that finishing second in recruiting just makes you first loser. These guys need to add 5-6 quality players to this class and at least one of them needs to be a potential every down SEC RB for this class to be considered an early success. I hope they get it done but if they don't I won't be surprised or disappointed because I really don't think it's fair to expect a Yugo to outrace a Ferrari.

I think CBJ has done a pretty good job with what little time he's had, but then again, so did Dooley his first year. I'm more interested in where we finish with wins and losses than recruiting - while related, they're not mutually exclusive.

I really want to see what he can do with more time to build relationships, which will be more important in the year's to come given the relaxed rules on calls, messages, etc to recruits.

This post is very deserving of a "like" so I did. Others should follow suit. IMHO JMO TIFWIW

I believe that given proper time to recruit that our coaches will be excellent recruiters. They have gotten us in the mind of several 4 and 5 star prospects this year when only given a month and a half basically. Remember he came in December 7th and then dead week hit two weeks later. The coaching staff has gotten us in on quite a few big players and I believe given time we will have some excellent recruiting classes in the next couple of years. I know I will probably be bashed for saying play the waiting game but I really like this coaching staff and I am looking forward to what they can do over the next couple of years.

After the way Doofus & Co. committed recruiting malpractice over the last year, Butch had a near impossible task to salvage decent class this year. He tried his best but appears to have failed.

Next year, there will be no excuses however. Butch & Co. will be expected to step up their game and pull in at least a Top 15 class and preferably a Top 10 or Top 5. Going forward he will be expected to do this every single year, if he wants to compete in the SEC and be here long term.

I may be wrong and if so - forgive me - but your reference to "Doofus & Co." is an intentional dig at our former coaching staff...Yes??? No?????

Yes, it is most definitely a dig at our former coaching staff. Using the term coaching staff is being extremely generous however. We ought to drag that arrogant piece of garbage into court and sue his butt off for failure to perform his duties. Maybe we could even get the amount we owe him in that ridiculous buyout reduced or wiped out.
