1. Great win, whether you want to talk about the fashion of it and the toughness and grit our guys showed, or if you enjoyed the whiny looks of Will Wade, or if you want to talk about the impact of that game on both SEC standings or NCAAT resume, it was a great win, a huge win, and one that hopefully the Vols can build off of.

2. Tennessee wasn’t perfect offensively, but considering that’s the #1 defense in the country by a wide margin and analytically one of the best in the past decade, Tennessee's offense had a great showing. LSU had not previously give up more than 92.6ppp to a team and Tennessee went for 99.1 tonight, they have the best offensive showing of any team to date against LSU, I’m not sure that’s something any of us saw coming. How did they do it? They took a bunch of 3’s and finally hit a good percentage of them, Vescovi obviously led the way going 5/11 and it’s great to see him really hunting his shot, he’s such a good shooter, he should be looking to put up 10 a game…JJJ was 2/6 which on the surface isn’t great but 33% you’ll take from him, in his last 4 games he’s 7/17 for 41%. When Tennessee didn’t shoot a 3 they got good post touches for the most part, Plavsic & Fulk combined to go 8-10 from the field.

3. On Plav & Fulk, and the whole front court merry go round, you gotta keep trying to stoke that fire with Plav and milk that for everything you can, because he’s the only post playing with any sort of consistency of late (who thought that would be the case?). You keep starting him, you give the other 3 guys a chance and just ride the hot hand on a nightly basis, the preference is JJJ plays quite a bit of 4 anyways and that helps space the floor a bit as he seems to be finding his shot. Fulk was efficient tonight, against Vandy not so much, BHH brought good energy and rebounding but his offensive game seems lacking, but the playing time should do him well, ON has seem to really hit a wall and is struggling of late.

4. We saw 1 player fall out of the rotation as things start to head towards the home stretch, Bailey didn’t log a single minute tonight which is a first…you hate it for him but Barnes gave him every chance to get things going, at some point you have to make the tough call. So that trimmed the number down to 10, and I won’t be shocked if it hangs around there, Mashack is probably going to see some minutes every night because of his defense and offensive rebounding, but could see 9 some nights I would think.

5. Huge win for Tennessee tonight from a big picture standpoint, puts them a game ahead of LSU in the loss column and has them right in the thick of things in the SEC race with some key games still to be played. I said heading into this 4 game stretch that 2–2 would be the minimum needed and 3-1 would feel good, well they’re off to a 2-0 start so can’t beat that. Vols now stick around Knoxville and will play a Florida team that will be playing its 3rd game 5 days, 2 of which are on the road, Florida may be loose and ready to roll or they may be tired, you never know, but huge opportunity for Tennessee on Wednesday night. I’ve said 21-9 should be the goal and they now sit at 13-5, tonight was one of the toss up games on the schedule and we took advantage, now need to make sure to not give one back we shouldn’t.

Excellent post game report as usual. I agree with all your points. It's good when the law of averages start to fall for us with the 3s and our bigs get hot. Florida is a tough out even at home, but I think our men have what it takes to win it at home. Go Vols! Beat Florida!

Later on at tourney time I could see it, but in the middle of the season, it's hard to imagine Florida being happy to play us so soon after another game.

A dream scenario for me would be to be undefeated at home. This would mean a win over UK and over Auburn. I know that's a lot to ask, but we have beaten Arizona. So, who knows? You would think that would give us at least a 4 seed in the big tourney. I would gladly take it at this point.

Number 1 "toughness and grit". That has been the difference in this team the last couple of games. It was severely lacking in previous games.

Fully agree. Plav's toughness and attitude combined with his willingness to mix it up appears to have had a large impact on this team.

If we are going to be a tough and physical team then I think I'd prefer Mashack to Powell. Just fully lean into that identity; plus it's not like Powell is killing it offensively.

I actually think this might have been the Vols best game of the year so far. Hopefully they have found the right mix and continue to progress.

Wade had a hissy fit over the “missed” goal tending. I thought that the other TN defender barely touched the ball just before the “goal tending”. I don’t have the DVR where I’m at right now so I can’t take a look at that play.
LSU got a few calls last night that were highly questionable. That was a goal tend for sure but ultimately it did not decide the game. Wade needs a kotex and a box of tissues. He is a giant douche.

If the other TN player touched it first it wouldn’t be a goal tending. I don’t have a recording handy to take another look at it.

Poor free throw % remains a big concern. Was better down the stretch in this game but it’s been a problem all season and will bite this team come tournament time.

It's odd JJJ looked uncomfortable shooting those 2 F1 free throws (both missed) all alone out there as Plav looked totally comfortable shooting his two F1's (made both) Plav brought it this game looks like some light switch is coming on for him.

Not that the refs have slow mo vision or all the angles, but I think its actually a lot closer on replay. It's still not a perfect top down view, and I couldnt get the replay to pause perfectly when Uros first touches it so this pic is just slightly after first contact, but I dont think its "for sure". That being said, I'm also a giant homer. I'm just gonna chalk it up to breaks in the game

Guess I missed that one.
I get frustrated bc I know how good they can be. The team is very talented. There just seems to be some reoccurring trends with Rick Barnes teams. I’m eternally grateful for what he has done for our program, but I still think we should be better than we are right now. There’s still time, we have the talent we could get hot at any moment

I agree with this. Maybe the win against LSU will provide us with some momentum and consistency. At this point of the year we really need to be rounding into our best versions of this team‘s potential. Beat a decent Florida team at home and control the game throughout with a comfortable 10 pt win would be a good sign.

Defensively we are rock solid but it is painful to watch our half court offense. We know what we are going to get from Vescovi every night. He’s tough and reliable but is limited and can’t carry us offensively. Chandler is the guy and is the #1 opportunity for us to improve as a team. He is too talented to be posting these current numbers in league play and making some of the mistakes he is making. To me, both Nkamhoua and Powell have it in them to be better and more consistent. Neither has to be exceptional, but we need 8-10 pts and 6 boards from ON and 6-8 pts from Powell each game. Those 3 players more than others can make the difference between being very good or just above average. BHH with upside possibly the 2nd half of SEC play. Plavsic has been an extremely pleasant surprise and should merit more touches. JJJ, Ziegler, Mashack, and Fulky I think we know what to expect from each the rest of the way. We have potential to be 10-14 pts better per game with this group, which could be a Sweet 16 team. If not yet another 1st round loss in the tournament.

Fair enough.

We’re far from a finished product and we don’t know what we’re going to see from these guys by EOY. Will Fulky regain his healthy energy and become more of a force? Will Powell figure out how to get himself open for 4-5 perimeter shots a game? Will ON get rid of the fumbles and focus himself on his strengths? Will ZZZ find his outside shot again? Will BHH settle in and become a consistent producer? And most importantly, Will KC start playing like a lottery pick and eliminate the silly turnovers?

There’s still huge upside with this group. Should be fun to see if they can reach their potential!

I actually believe Vescovi is too unselfish. IMO needs to get up 14 to 16 shots a game. He is the 1 player that seems to be dependable on the offensive end.

Another Solid Analysis.
Our Strength over the next 12 games + Tourney Time x2?
Maybe Depth and versatility of Offensive schemes'
This is a Barnes Coached team but he has many combinations he can play on the court.
Yes, we are in a three Shooting slump but I expect that to pass and begin to improve.
The Offense is going to get better and the Defense will not drop in efficiency.....
Cautiously Optimistic because I think there best game of the season is yet to come.
I think they will continue to improve and move up.
Peak at the right time......time will tell.

I’ve been saying since the first SEC game that he needed to pull a Steph Curry and average 15 threes/gm. At the rate that he makes them, that’s an easy 5 or 6 makes at the minimum. On a good night he could make 7 or 8. He could easily average 15-18 PPG on threes alone.
