BTO’s Arizona Postgame Report

No mention of JJJ? I thought this was one of his best offensive performances in Orange.

Predictably, he got a lot of hate from the in-game thread’s legions of the miserables.

I’ve only rewatched the first 10 minutes (with the camera opposite of where I sit). Live, I was pissed at JJJ’s first sloppy turnover. After re-watching, the first one was a combination of JJJ being a little bit of a showboater (uncharacteristic for him) when he bounced the ball in the backcourt in Vescovi’s general direction without looking. Unfortunately Vescovi was blocked at that exact moment from seeing JJJ and the ball SLOWLY bounced out of bounds. The other early turnover was just a bad pass by JJJ and it set off the haters big time.

Funny as the only mention I read was a guy saying JJJ couldn’t buy an outside shot and another saying it was too flat. Some of these drive by posters are truly lost concerning basketball

5/11 from the floor for 12 points with 5 rebounds and an assist. It's not elite, but that's a solid game for a guy we know is giving elite defense. Not sure why anyone would say his outside shot wasn't working. He shot better from 3 than the team as a whole and matched Arizona's %.

Why is it that the Vols cannot seem to find someone who can consistently hit the 3? I know everyone struggles at times shooting but the Vols just seem to struggle more from 3 than most top 20 teams.
Or a jumper for spells!! When we go cold we go ice cold.

If Fulky can put in that type effort every single game and average 20+PPG and 10+REB he would get consideration for not only SEC POY, but National POY. We probably wouldn’t lose a game. I don’t foresee that happening but he was that good last night.

This team should be pretty good in conference. They have a little bit of everything now. Just need to use the pieces in the right way.

Watched the game and recorded it so I could watch it with a friend later. After watching it a second time and discussing it with my friend, we agreed that some of our shots were rushed, others were shot out of rhythm and some were taken with just poor form or mechanics. When shooting from behind the three point line the smallest flaw in the shot will get exacerbated as the ball travels. Our three point shooters know this... so what goes wrong during a shot. First look at the Arizona roster. With few exceptions they were bigger than us at every position. Also, Arizona was extremely athletic and they closed out on three point shooters quickly with hands held high. This means the pass to the shooter must be perfect...allowing the shooter to catch in rhythm and continue that motion into the shot. When playing a team with size and length this is easier said than done. At least one of Stanti's makes was several feet off of the three point line trying to overcome that size and length. Some times, I think, as fans we discount the other teams defense and default to believing our shootings problems are because we suck. Some nights that may be true. Last night was not one of those nights. Arizona is good and last night they had a vote in our shooting issues.

I think Fulkerson made Zona pay for not giving him enough attention in their Defensive game plan & execution. No double teams on Fulky til late game. And multiple times they left him a wide open 14-15 jump shot (that he passed up by continuing to dribble toward the basket).

Now, it was wonderful to see Fulky hit a few of those high-rise jump shots again! That was a good weapon a couple of years ago.
