Bruce Pearl=Steve Spurrier?

But if Spurrier rejected UF, why would he say yes to UT.

Spurrier never rejected Florida. Jeremy Foley had no interest in bringing Spurrier back to Gainesville.

He did. That was him being gracious and taking Foley off the hook. By making that statement, Steve took Jeremy off the hook with the faction of the Florida alums who wanted the Visor back.

I think that is all correct, but as a Florida alum I wasn't really all that excited about the thought of Spurrier coming back to Florida post-Zook/NFL experiment. When he left, he left the cupboard farely bare in terms of offensive and defensive linemen. He had, in my opnion, really lightened up on the recruiting and my impression was that he just wasn't as committed as he needed to be to that part of the job.

Flash forward to what he's doing at South Carolina, and I suppose I've been proven wrong. In any event, I'm obviously not going to be complaining anytime soon about the job Meyer is doing in his stead, if one chooses to look at it that way.

As to Pearl and the issue of Spurrier being classless in "threatening" to leave USC, I get the distinct impression that the problem wasn't necessarily these two recruits, its that he felt embarrassed that he had to tell these kids they couldn't play there after making them believe they were in. It made him look bad to those kids and gave ammo to those that claimed that USC had over-recruited for the scholarships they had. It also put him in a bad spot as he recruits next year. I really doubt he had plans to skedaddle over it, in and of itself.
