Bruce Pearl retiring!

Assuming, there is more to this story? Health, NCAA violations or ?. The Senate run was just a cover story as he denied it. Waited for the portal to close. Role as ambassador? Time will tell or we may never know the real story.
I think sometimes we lose sight of how old some of these coaches are - he's 65. Not exactly a young buck. When anybody, regardless of the kind job they have, is 65 and still working when they clearly don't have to be, "I wonder when they are going to retire" is in the back of everyone's head.

If he was 55, sure, I'd wonder if there was something else going on. Then again Tony Bennett and Jay Wright stepped away because they wanted to. Maybe he was just burned out, exhausted, and didn't want to coach anymore.

I wasn't as serious as you may think, but your explanation is just as out there as my question.
Plenty of coaches out there over the age of 65 coaching.
Work is about loving what you do and loving the work. Coaching is what it is a demanding job but if you love it you will continue to grow.
Pearl is not a rules follower as we all know.
Is he running for Senate, he says no. Given the state of Congress who would want to dwell in that mess.
Is Pearl still on the Payroll at Auburn? No, but what kind of made up job is Special Assistant to the AD. He is Still on Contract and prior to this move his extended contract runs to 2030.
Odd thought that he leaves and Steven takes over. I wonder what he paid to buy out is contract in 2030.

I don' think he's looked the healthiest the past few years; he's gained weight and visibly aged. That happens to everyone but when you're in a high stress job like that it compounds it.

I also wonder if he thought last season was his last realistic shot at winning it all.

For the last several years, he has the body type of a guy that does steroids.

I think it was a combo of his age + what @VolsSportsFan said (2024 was his last best chance to win it all).
