I have Georgia winning the East. The Dawgs have a very good, experienced D returning and a savvy QB in Aaron Murray. After that, I have South Carolina. I could see Tennessee coming in third as my surprise team. The Vols will no longer be a young team. They'll have a lot of three-year starters on what figures to be a potent offense. They will be counting on a lot of unproven guys on the D-line but my hunch is they have a shot to win nine this year. I slotted UF fourth ahead of Mizzou because they have a much deeper group of athletes on defense. After that, I have Vandy and UK rounding out the division.

I'll take it

I agree...

I think with UF, Mizzou, and Kentucky being home games certainly pushes them heavily in our favor (all else being equal).

I think Vandy in Nashville is basically a home game regardless. And, I think they experience a surprising drop off after last year (similar to Dooley's second year) due to a loss of senior experience and leadership.

I actually see UGA as a closer game than many imagine, I have SCAR going 1st in the east. With a toss up between UGA/UT for second.

I know many discount Mizzou, but if nothing else, we could play spoiler for Georgia... They play us in the second game of the season at our place, our first SEC home game. The place will be rockin' and Georgia never plays well early in the season AND when they have to cross the Mississippi.

Indeed; however, every time that Georgia comes in highly touted preseason they seem to blow up and under achieve incredibly.

That is true... what year was it that they came in as a huge favorite and we beat the bricks out of them in Neyland??

2007 - the year we back into the SECCG. UGA beat UF that year, and went on to stomp Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl, getting them the #1 overall in 2008. Then they crumbled.

Yes, but everything I've read has Mizzou maybe taking a step back. I think the reason that everyone is putting them so low is because there is so much unknown with them at this particular moment.

I could definitely see Tennessee playing spoiler if health doesn't become an issue like this year. (Our schedule got a lot easier this year over last.)

true 77 , I think everyone is over looking Mizzou . I am not sure who all you guys have coming back , but I do know you can put points on the board and you have (had ) a pretty good qb

If we won 9 in the regular season, went to a bowl and got to double digit wins, I might celebrate like I did after Jeff Hall nailed the field goal to beat UF in '98.

It's been a long long long time....:ermm:

Yep - I like it. We probably won't win the East, but we will definitely surprise folks. In terms of Mizzou, I think they need to earn the respect of teams in the SEC. Until they do, I'm quite comfortable overlooking them. My personal opinion is Mizzou will be limping by the time they come to Knoxville...

That season was not for the faint of heart.

Question...do you really remember much after that fl win in 98?

Talking about that night. The celebrating I did is a little fuzzy.

We have a good mix of veterans and some highly touted, 4-star kids who will be starting next year. I promise you everyone will know who James Franklin is next year -- as a sophomore, his stats in his first year at Mizzou were better than Chase Daniel and Blaine Gabbert's.

I think the key will be the interior of our defensive line. We have one defensive tackle, a senior, who was the top-rated tackle in the country coming out of high school -- Sheldon Richardson... a man beast... Problem is our depth there is very untested. That concerns me.

I think most people discount Mizzou, as many of said, is that we're the 'wild card,' the unknown. And I'm not saying we'll win the East, not by any means... but I think we'll be competitive and surprise some teams with how hard we play... Pinkel has done an excellent job of recruiting kids for his system.

Yeah, we already know. He's Candybilt's whiny-ass toddler-like HC.
