Bristol Trivia: Who drove winning car to finish line in first race July '61?

What brand of car won the most races in '61 & '62?

Local (Bluff City native) John A. Utsman drove as a relief driver at Bristol, and took the car from third to win for what driver?

Davey Allison's one victory at Bristol was in a car that was probably not even a top 10 potential car. How did this happen?

1. Johnny Allen - drove as a relief driver for Jack Smith the official winner.
2. Pontiac
3. Benny Parsons
4. A sealer was applied to the track and it started coming up making the normal grove move up the turns until the cars were at the wall. Allison used pit strategy to get in the lead and no one could pass. Over half the lead lap cars were nose to tail.

Could have fooled me on 2. since the Mopar hemi ran so strong at the drag strips for a few years.

The hemi (2nd version) didn't come out until '64. It was so dominant, NASCAR under threats from Ford to pull out, banned it. Chrysler then boycotted early in the '65 season. Richard Petty and David Pearson went drag racing with a Hemi-Cuda and Hemi-Dart, mostly doing exhibition "grudge matches". Richard entered the initial Bristol Springnationals and won the B/Altered class.
