So, we have 12+ tickets to the game and a reservation on an RV spot. However, we can't find an RV and hotels are booked or ridiculously expensive. Limo rides from Knoxville are $150/hr with 12 hour minimums.

Thinking outside the box: does anyone have novel ideas on travel or accommodations? I suppose we could rent a large van and fight traffic, but that sounds like a headache.

I'm open to all suggestions.

I got this...

Call Lovie, he has a plane circling in the area, and can hook you up.

What about staying in Asheville, NC? Don't know prices for that weekend but it's within an hour and 20 minutes from the stadium. So close enough but might be not as expensive.

Parking: (Very unconventional) Is there a church or something within walking distance that you could contact to see if you could park there? Might avoid more traffic.

Try to AirBnb a really big house close to the racetrack. That's the best way for a ton of people to travel together.

I think that you can pitch a tent in the R V spot

My inlaws live in Bristol and normally rent their house for races. They are going to this game however, but I'm sure there are other people who do the same thing. Look on VRBO.

why did you reserve a RV slot without access to a RV? cart before horse is never a good idea.

PrimeSports will be running a chartered bus from Knoxville 5-6 hours before the game to Bristol. Back to Knoxville after the game. Staff person and snacks on the bus. Price is $125/seat. This might not work for 12+ tickets, but for 2 people, it was cheaper than driving up, paying for parking, getting a motel room, eating out...etc.

Ahhhh...for once I don't have to worry about parking, traveling to or from the stadium or lodging. I can see the back side of the track from my house from about a 1/2 mile away. The swimming pool / tailgate party will be going all day. :)

We used to rent our house out for the races and there is a large number of folks that still do. You may want to check bristolracerentals.com...there is a couple other businesses that do the same in the area.

I figure there will be all kinds of charter buses from Kville on game day. I hope to go up Thurs & back Sunday. Camping but not taking care of the details. What are RV rental rates that you've found?

Man I am so glad that no part of me wants to go to this game. Sounds like an overly expensive mess.

But you guys have fun!

Keep in mind that getting from Bristol to Johnson City (20 miles or so) can take like 2-3 hours after a race with 100,000 people. This event could have more than 150,000+ so I would only expect that number of hours to increase.

I disagree with this 2-3 hrs statement, If this happens people don't know where to park

I've got 20 tickets (kids, grandkids and college friends) and needed lodging for 18. Lodging costs are high in all cases (hotels, house rentals, etc.) and extremely difficult for a party of our size. The houses are the best option per person, if you can split the cost. We could not find a house big enough for our party that was affordable because of the number of kids.

The RaceRental website mentioned above had some options that might fit your party. But some of the houses were only approved for Race Week.

I cancelled 5 rooms @ the Quality Inn in Johnson City on 2/5/16 (they were $225/night) and I suspect they are now booked.

I ended up finding a "cabin" rental place called Bee Cliff Cabins, supposedly 30 minutes (with light traffic) from BMS. I had to rent 2 of their largest houses (cabins). The cost ended up being ~$150/person for 2 nights. A little more expensive (for couples with kids) than the hotel, but being 4 to a room in a hotel with with 7 grandkids was the option of last resort for my kids. They voted the "cabin" route.

Good luck.

That's why you stick around and enjoy the scene for at least 2-3 hours after the game/race. I've been to many Bristol races and there are usually bands playing and some type of entertainment all around the track afterwards. There are so many people camping that it's going to be a huge party with campfires everywhere. It will last well into Sunday morning.

yea I agree that's a better way to do it, OP was talking about renting a taxi though from out of town. So sounds like both of us would advise against that idea.

Rent a U-Hual – throw in a few couches / air mattresses, coolers, etc.

Hey you said open to all suggestions :)

That's awesome. They are orange and white.

I rode in the back of one on a move back in the day, it was a smooth ride.

Looks like we may just travel 8 in a big van, hang around after, and have the short-straw be responsible for driving.

I live in Knoxville, so Asheville is actually further.
