I know he was not a great coach, but he could get people fired up.......... and that is something we need. When I watched the game today it wasnt the same without seeing trooper chest bump hardesty after a touchdown. I mean today we played with no emotion, no heart, no desire, and UCLA had that. Trooper can get that emotion back in the guys if we let him, anyone with me?

Not to mention an incredible recruiter getting players out of Miami somehow. Clawson seems like a good choice now though...

It would cost too much money to get him back. Plus, fulmer's buyout would be in the millions and UT doesn't have the cash, unless some $$$ boosters pony up some big time coin.

Teams take on the mentality of their coach. Phil's always been business like. Its cost us on more than one occasion. Emotion is part of the game. We did not seem to want to avenge our west coast trip from last year too much.

Sad part is all fulmer has to do is win 8 games and he gets a one year contract extension as part of his current contract

Yeah, we need more mental midgets on the sideline.

He may be struggling to get 8. Already lost to UCLA. Bama and Florida may as well go in the L column. Don't even include AU or UGA.

The players never seemed all that fired up when he was here. Just because they had fun chest bumping an old man, didn't mean they were fired up to play football. The performance on the field proves that.

Go ahead and include them as loses. We will be fighting for respect the rest of the year. I doubt we make another appearance in the top 25 all year.

Im talking about he gave emotion dang it. when i play football i always have a hitting partner that will knock the **** out of me and get me mad as hell so when i go out there i will want to rip someones head off.

You need to see how well he works as a coach out at Ok. St. before we say this though.

Still, I think he was a big time loss from the coaching staff that could be the make/break for later on, especially recruiting wise

i still don't remember the players having all that much intensity on the field with Trooper here. Seems it was the same old boring crap we had tonight.

If a player needs a chestbump from an incompetent idiot to get themselves "fired up," they stink to begin with.

nice, completely agree. Some ppl on here think being overly enthusiastic can make up for being a sorry positions coach.

I'm not saying trooper was great or anything but mainly more towards the Offensive staff: UT's offense last year - even in the Cal game - was head over heels better than this joke of a strategy we saw come out today

I was kidding, I don't think a chestbump helps anything. Not sure what you're saying about Saban's robe.

I knew you were joking. So was I.

The latter was something I heard when I went down to SEC MEdia day for my internship this summer. When I was getting all the media stuff and passing through radio row (which is just like it sounds, all the sports radio channels lined up at different tables) the first thing I heard was one of the sports radio broadcasters say:

"You know Jim, they say if you can get close enough to touch Saban's robe, it will cure all that ails you"

It cracked me up when I heard it and has stayed with me as the best example of radical bama religious supernatural football belief I can ever think of.

I think he would have made a difference Monday night for what it's worth.
The guys looked like they wanted to be anywhere but there.
My wife (the Vol fan) is VERY upset not to see him on the side lines. I think he was very unique.
