"Brian Williams would have challenged for the starting position whether or not Wayne and Duke were injured,'' Pearl said. "That's how well he's practiced.''

Coach Forbes has said nothing but good things about Brian.

Good to see the young ones getting PT early. Hopefully we will be all healed and good to go in a few weeks though.

Our guys are getting injured left and right. Good to see that Williams is making good progress.

I didnt see that coming at all. most of the concerns about him were of the "can he make it up and down the floor" variety. Pearl's system demands awesome conditioning. Now, out of left field, he's going to start?

"Trust me, you're going to know a lot about him," Childress said. "He's going to be playing a lot. He's been a big surprise. He's a guy we players thought might redshirt, but he's done a great job of getting his weight down, developing his game and understanding our offense.

"He's real strong, real physical. He's a load. You can't really move him. He moves his feet well for a big man, and he's decently athletic, and he's got a nice touch inside the paint and around the free-throw line."

I thought he would redshirt as well. Pearl finds a way to get people involved. I would love to see this kid do well.

If he can come in and throw his body around for 10-12 min. a game and give a few hard fouls would be nice.It is going to be hard to get everyone minutes on this team though.

No, he would have challenged for the starting job regardless. He's lost about 12 lbs since RTSL and has significantly improved his strength/conditioning.

He would have challenged for it, but the reason he is getting the start for THIS game is because of the Chism/Crews issues.

"That's how well Brian has done so far in practice," Pearl said Thursday. "He's got minutes now. He's going to get at least 20 tomorrow night."

Williams said Pearl told him he would have started regardless, and it would have been because of a grade point average that would be 3.5 if the semester ended today.

"He said the (centers) have been the closest on the team, so he went off grades, and I had better grades than Wayne," Williams said.

As long as our BB players are passing and are in good standing academically with the University I want the best man out there, not the highest graded.

Chism will be back in the starting lineup next week. I'm just glad to see Brian progressing as quickly as he has.
