Several people told me that I was somehow a topic of interest on volnation.com. Imagine my surprise when I logged in, though with a username I guess I should sadly change, and saw such kind words.
For those that don't know, I helped host Prime Time Sports on 1510 WLAC out of Nashville for the last four years, though I began at WLAC in 1997 after somehow managing to graduate from the University of Tennessee.
Working at such an historic station has been a blessing, as has the opportunity to work with the tremendously talented folks that have waltzed in and out of those doors over the years - Bob Bell, Bill King, Tracy Harris, Conn Hamlett, Duncan Stewart as well as our producers Katrina and then Patrick. There have also been amazing people working at WLAC not doing sports talk, but that list would drag on longer than some guy speaking choppy English at any Academy Wards show having won best short form foreign documentary.
Over the years, I have developed a personal relationship with many of our callers, and that was the intent. It was a difficult decision to leave the people inside that building that I fought with everyday to make that radio station as penetrable as possible. It was also difficult to leave my freinds that called the show. Can you imagine if fifty of your best freinds suddenly went away one day? It's been tough.
But, it was a decision that had to be made. Due to the unconvenient hours of leaving for the station in some cases at 3am, and going home in most cases around 11pm, I found it extremely difficult to be included in my families lives. My wife is a real estate agent and works most weekends. It was tough. Too tough. So, the decision became clear.
I have been fortunate enough to go to work for my friend Ken Innis and have enjoyed learning the financial business. As for the future, you never know what may happen. For those that listened to the show and are interested in this topic, I thank you tremendously.
Sorry for the lengthy reply but I do appreciate the kind words. I do apologize for taking the time of the many that do not care. It is thirty seconds you'll never get back, but I guess that's better than enduring two hours of our show back in the day!
Duncan still carries the WLAC sports talk torch, so give him a listen. He is an extremely talented guy. And, you can hear 1510 out of Nashville into 28 states at night. So call in and give him a hard time. He's on from 8p-10p central...As for me, again, you never know what may happen in the future!
Thanks again! -Brent.
