Breaking down Eliah Drinkwitz's offense

It’s 100% a spread offense. Will look like a butch Jones team with a mobile quarterback and a bunch of short passing routes and bubble screens. It can still work in 2020 (see Clemson) but it increasingly requires elite talent as coordinators have adjusted. The game has moved on and elite dbs with speed will blow up a lot of plays (see alontae last week) which can stall drives fast.

Lolol. Is that why LSU finally gave up on under center pro style old school running offense and immediately went from scoring 10 pts vs Bama over THREE years and won a championship? Is that why Bama and now even UGA have moved toward spread? Clemson and OSU run spread. Lmao at cfb figuring it out. It may not be the unknown novelty Oregon's hyper spread once was, but figured out or not, it is simply superior to bunch up bully ball.

And hate or hate Butch, but he had 2 of our highest scoring offenses in our school history.

Fwiw Chaney has us quite spread as well, those are his roots after all.

I like our athletes on defense better than Missouri’s Players on offense. Get after the QB, tackle well, and please defend the slants over the middle of the field. SCAR killed us with the slants.

The only reason that scheme worked is because Dobbs was an elite playmaker

I hope we improve from last week. This is where a decent qb in a spread option system can kill you, with that play action fake to the rb to freeze the lb and then got a slot or te on the slant.

Agreed. I know he was not a mobile QB but SCAR’s QB impressed me last week when he was given time in the pocket. I think most Vol fans including myself, underestimated him. Dont anything about Missouri’s QB.

Nah, Odom was fired last season. Apparently, Dooley is with the New York Giants now (I had to look it up).
I knew Odom was fired but last time I checked (a few months ago) Dooley was retained as OC or at least hadn't been replaced.

LSU and Bama don’t run the spread....at least not in the sense of Butch, Dabo, and Drinkwitz. Everyone uses spread concepts, but the traditional spread is about drinking and dunking. LSU and Bama (and to some extent Tennessee) use RPOs to hit intermediate/slant routes and play action to take deep shots. Relatively few bubble screens and sticks in those offenses. You can generally get more out of your elite playmakers (and quarterbacks) by pushing the ball downfield.

It is different sorts, sure, but it's still the spread. Coach O specifically told Ensminger they had to go spread and that's when they went out and found Brady to run it. Saban has obviously been going that direction for some time. Their last true old school offense I remember is 13 or 14 maybe idk.

I do agree they are certainly different types from Drinkwitz, there are plenty of forms or versions of it...it's pretty general. Chaney has been going that way, saw a lot 11 and even 10 personnel this past week. More so than in the past.

From watching Mizzou/Bama highlights, they actually look like they run a very similar offense to GA State last year, which burned us.

It looks like they like to roll their QB out of the pocket and throw the short crossing routes. When they lull you to sleep with short routes they like to run the occasional pitch play which roasts our defense every time.

I think they’re going to score some points, but on the bright side they will have no answer for our O-line and their secondary looks weak. JG playing a game that is equal to or better than his SC performance should be enough to put this one away, but they won’t be a guaranteed win by any stretch.
