Both QBs have played 1 ranked team (and lost), 1 good D, 2 bad Ds and 1 average D.
Neither QB runs particularly well.

Barkley is a Sr with 40 starts.
Bray is a Jr with 17 starts.

I wonder if a small, vocal, insane portion of Barkley's fanbase has thrown him under the bus as well? Probably, but those people are stupid as well.

The difference is that Barkley has a few significant wins on his resume and is more of a leader for his team.

Hey, that's great. Can he just beat a better than mediocre SEC team now?

JUST another reason why Stats dont mean crap, except the ONE......... W's.

I dont give a crap what his stats are, unless it would lead the dummy to declare and leave early.

His has NO heart, NO leadership and his left coast freakin attitude sux.

What are Barkley's big wins again?

They're both NFL prototypes, but neither one has really set the world on fire winning championships. If UT had USC's schedule, they'd be winning 9-10 games as well, and vice versa.

Up to this point, the comparison is pretty fair.

Tell that to Stanford, whom Barkley never beat in 4 tries, despite having a much better team around him than Bray has had for his 3 years.

Barkley has the Mental capacity and leadership. Bray has the bigger arm, and better pure arm talent.

Matt Barkley hasn't beaten a D as good as half of the SEC's Ds (except maybe Ohio State in 09 -- 1 game).

Barkley has lost 4 times to Stanford, and 2 times (soon to be 3) to Oregon and Wash.

And he's lost some bad games too:

2011 ArizSU (43-22)
2010 Or St (36-7), Notre Dame (20-16)
2009 Ariz (20-16)

He didn't look like much of a leader vs. Stanford when his OLine was making lookout blocks....

And Barkley (40) has had > twice as many starts as Bray (17).

Wise Ole Vol...you assured me there would be no more mathy threads after that 3-1 / 2-2 / 4-0 headache from last week

Of all fans to walk into this mistake it has to be TN fans. How many times did Peyton beat FL? And before you throw FL's talent in my face check Stanford's rankings over the last few years and the amount of players drafted by the NFL.

PM was 3-0 vs. UF (not 4 as UF and the media claim -- he didn't start in 94 until Miss State, the week after the UF game).

PM WAS 3-1 vs. Alabama.

I think you fail to see the comparison I was drawing. I think Barkley is a phenomenal QB and I'd take him on ANY team. He'll likely be a good NFL QB. I'd use Peyton and Barkley as examples of why some of the people around here need to get off Bray's jock.

Read the posts before you jump to wrong conclusions about what I meant. A poster tried to say that Barkley was way better than Bray because Barkley won his big games. I pointed out how that was not true.

Gotcha. I think we are on the same page then. My response was just to the record against Stanford.

BOTTOM LINE: Tyler Bray is not the (and is the LAST) reason UT is not a great team. He was ahead 20-13 vs. UF in the mid 3rdQ, having just completed a 12-play TD drive against the vaunted UF D...and then D went to sleep.

You might also have forgotten the 16-play TD drive at the end of the 1st Half. SIXTEEN.

So from these posts I gather that Bray needs a season like this to be comparable to Barkley since this was his junior year stats but maybe slightly less since he plays in the SEC.

NAME CMP ATT YDS CMP% YDS/A TD INT RAT
Matt Barkley 308 446 3528 69.1 7.91 39 7 161.2

Ok then.

Also Barkley beat a number 4 ranked Oregon his junior year, so I should expect Bray to beat a ranked team this year too right? Or is that to much to ask for?

So the reason we didnt score again has nothing to do with him? But the fact that Florida did has all to do with our D? I remember Bray throwing a pick which lead to a score but I could be wrong.

Why don't we let him play the games before we determine he can't do it?
