Bray Leads SEC in TD's and Yards

You must not have been a fan when Crompton was here then

Crompton and Clausen also had haters. But, when they had good games, the fans seemed to rally behind them.

With Bray, it is different. When he has a great game, it seems to infuriate some of our fans. This makes no sense for Vol fans to react this way, and maybe they shouldn't be labeled as such.

Bray has put up these #'s against what kind of competition?

While it is true that Bray has done far better against OOC opponents, it is also true that against the meat of the SEC, the offense is trying to make up for the defenses ineptitude which means that plays get forced, the play calling turns panicky and the game plan changes.

But, for arguments sake, let us look at a few numbers (all as shown on ESPN.com):
Rankings based on points allowed per game.
TEAM...........RANK..........Avg. Pts........Bray pass yards
NCSU...........47..............24.1.............333
UF...............4...............12.1.............257
UGA.............25..............20.9............281
MSU............23...............19.7............148
Bama............1.............(site malfunctioning )
SCAR............20.............18.3..............381

Do you realize that against UF we put up more points than anyone else this season?
Do you realize that against UGA we put up more points than anyone else this season?
Do you realize that only UF put up more points on SCAR than we did?
Do you realize that the most anyone has put up on Bama this year is 17, two teams put up 14, and we put up 13?

Bray is not the problem, in fact Bray and the offense at many times during this season have been heroic and have done things that no other team has done against our toughest opponents. Yet because the defense is so horrid, we only remember a few blown plays which wouldn't be an issue considering the points we are scoring if the D was even just bad.

Remaining schedule is Missouri, Vandy and Kentucky. He could end up with the best year ever of a UT QB yet some people still think he sucks. Peyton threw for 3,287 his Jr yr and then 3819 his Sr yr. Bray needs to average 158.3 yds per game to throw for more yards than Peyton in his Jr yr and average 335.66 over the last 3 games to be the single season all time leader. I am not sure if Peyton's numbers had a bowl game or not but if it does bray might not have a problem being the all time single season leader IF we go to a bowl. I am not saying he is Better than Peyton but it amazes me how unappreciative our fans are of one of the best QB's to ever wear orange. If he had half the defense Peyton had he would already have a street named after him.

Do a comparison of stats in SEC games and OOC games.

Try this on for size with respect to the schizoid personality of our team, i.e. offensive productivity vs. defensive ineptitude:

At present, we are averaging 162.0 YPG rushing, 323.1 YPG passing, 485.1 YPG total offense and 36.8 pts per game. At that total offense clip, we should be averaging considerably more pts. per game, but, as we all know, the defense is doing virtually nothing, particularly in terms of creating turnovers, to set up our offense. Our defense is matching virtually point-for-point and yard-for-yard what our offense is generating ( UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics - Football ).

To further contextualize our current offensive productivity, the all-time single season offensive records are as follows: 3981 yds. passing, 37 touchdown passes and 331.8 ypg passing, all of which were set in 1997. Total offense records also were set in '97: 5,794 yds., 482.8 ypg. Our most prolific season scoring was in 1993: 471 pts., 42.8 pts. per game, and 62 touchdowns ( 2012 Tennessee Football Record Book: Records ). If we should tally 1634 yds. total offense in the last three games, and it might take that to win all three, we would finish the season with exactly 6,000 yds. total offense or 500.0 YPG. When I first started following college football back in the mid '60s, 400 ypg would often lead the nation in total offense.

Bottom line: Let's do give credit to Bray and Co. for what they are doing statistically. 'tis a crying shame that such offensive firepower could not be coupled with even an average defense.

If Bray was HALF the qb Peyton was we would have a better record against better teams. Accumulated stats are lovely. It is a safe bet Peyton has double the yards & td's Bray has in league games. Bray is not 1/4 of the qb Peyton is.
But he won that game yesterday though. No disputing that. The problem with Bray is that his footwork in the pocket is bad. His ball-handling in the pocket is a mess. His mechanics are sloppy. He pats the ball and holds it loosely and improperly way to much. He will have plenty of time to correct all of these things in spring practice.

Woohoo.. and how good your defense is should sooo determine your legacy as a QB

The only thing that determines qb legacy is qb play. But if he was this great he would come out and put the good teams on their heels. We don't. We gradually start moving the ball and scoring in these big games. Bray is a good college player. So are Hunter & CP. But none are GREAT. None are top 5 picks un the draft. All could return to school and get better at their positions. All this great talk because of records being set out of conference is kind of silly. If they go to the Swamp next year and score 40 on Florida I will buy in. But not now. They are not doing it in games that matter.

Yet another hater posting anti-Bray information because he isn't as good as Peyton.

I feel sorry for ALL of the current and future Tennessee QBs. I got news for you pal...there NEVER will be another Peyton Manning on the Hill.

Either get over it and stop hating on our QBs, or find another team.

My God people, get over yourself. Tyler's performance is the one thing we can all get behind over the past few years. Leadership? He has made a drastic improvement over the season since the FL game. We've played from behind in almost every game and played to the last minute.

Yes, I know some of the games were heart breakers.

But here's my take on what's happened over the past 5 years involving the football program. In 1908, someone prominent involved with AD actually sold his soul to the devil for 100 years of dominant football and we'd be on our own afterwards...

I don't get all the hate about Bray, he's made a few untimely mistakes but overall he's been great when he hasn't been playing Bama. Unfortunately we have a defense that Carson Newman could score 40 on.

He hung 44 on Georgia in Athens and LOST.

The sad reality is that has probably never happened before. Our defense is so bad that it is negating all of his outstanding efforts.

People say well, "what did he do against real competition?" when they should be say "what did the defense not do?"

Lots of intangibles go into the making of a great quarterback. Statistics just can't tell it all.

Why do some hate on the few bright spots we have? Yes, Tennessee is a bad overall football team, but Bray is a good QB on a bad football team. Who do you want? Worley? LOL..we have seen that in action. It is also funny to me that Manning never beat Florida, never won a NC, but he is loved and Fulmer is hated...whatever...drive on with your crazy logic.

FL, GA, AL, MS ST and SC to name a few. Just incase you we're wondering all top 50 in total defense. Bad argument man!

Bray is a great QB until the game is on the line. Great QBs find ways to win games he throws picks or fumbles when the game is on the line or throws a perfect strike to his coach. Check out his stats in the last 2-3 minutes of games that are close. He has all the physical tools just lacks the mental toughness and leadership skills required of the position to win big games. It isn't his fault you either have IT or you don't. P.S. I am not excusing the horrific play of our defense. Just pointing out that Bray has had opportunities to cement his legacy in Football lore, but tends to depend on someone else to make a play instead of taking the RESPONSIBILITY on himself.

AWESOME! that translates into how many wins?.... my point. WHO CARES! Forget individual stats, I could care less. How about we win some games. sheesh....

Stat was posted in another thread ... when Bray starts AND the defense holds the other team to under 30, UT is 11-2

We have had some pretty good quarterbacks over the last several years yet they have been severely under appreciated. The problem is that we were spoiled with Shuler, Manning and then Martin who quarterbacked a national championship team. Maybe our expectations are too lofty. Bray has put up massive amounts of points trying to keep up with our opponents who are scoring almost effortlessly on our horrible defense.

then this absolutely proves that defense wins championships

Exactly. He's had one great SEC game against USC this year.

He had a great game against Georgia as well!

Both road games. Not bad against Miss St. either. Decent game against FL. also. Really only bad game was Bama. If we had a #$%%^&& defense we would be 8-1 right now! He doesn't play on that side of the ball!
