Heading to Atlanta next weekend with a bunch of of college friends to see the Braves play the Cardinals. We're catching the Saturday game and I def want us to be a part of the first 20,000 in because they're giving out free hats. About how early should we get there?

I haven't been to Turner Field since I was 7, so parking-related advice would be really helpful, too.

Get there about 1-1 1/2 hrs before first pitch. From 75 South, instead of exiting at Turner Field, go to University Ave and turn left. That road will curve to the left and cross some RR tracks and turn into Hank Aaron Drive. Stadium is in about 1/2 mile on the left. Park in the lot on the right directly across the street from the stadium. I don't know why, but there seem to always be spaces there even though it's very close to the stadium

Who cares about a hat that prolly isn't going to be that nice. Tailgate and slam beers in the blue lot amongst the trees.

I would say get there very early to avoid parking and traffic if you care to tailgate.

I cant remember which game it is with the cardinals but during a game last week they advertised a seating ticket that could get you on the field during BP. You might want to check into that.

Don't park in the green lot under any circumstance unless you have an hour to spare after the game sitting in your car.

I would sit on the third base line. Turner can be unbearably hot in the summer.

i haven't been there in about 10+ years but is the Holiday Inn(i think) still there that sits about a block away on the backside of the stadium? back then it wasn't a huge difference in price and was so worth not having to worry about traffic and parking

I'm pretty sure this is the way we came in last time. Do NOT go this way within an hour of game time. We missed the first 3 innings.

I went to a game 3 weeks ago and did this 15 minutes before the first pitch. Only traffic is getting past the two Turner Field exits and getting down to x244 to get off 75. Once you get off the interstate, the traffic going in the back way is shockingly sparse. All the surface street traffic is north of the stadium.

It's still there. It's a run of the mill hotel, but it's not a bad option if you want to just park there and walk to and from the game and not do much else.

I've enjoyed when I've gone to games there. Sweated profusely the most recent time.

So true to both. I remember Memorial Day vs the phillies in 2010. Sat in the sun. Thought I was in hades itself

There was a road closure the day we went that forced us down that road. If that road closure doesn't happen every game, then I could see why traffic was especially bad that day. It looked like a normal occurrence though for some sort of game related closure. It definitely probably maybe wasn't construction related.
