Latest bowl projections from 247:

Gator Bowl

Projected matchup: Tennessee vs. Indiana

Quick bite: A month ago, sources told us the Gators wanted the Vols if they ended the season 7-5 — well, here we are. Tennessee could play in Nashville (Music City) or in the Liberty Bowl as well. It'll be interesting to see who lobbies for Jeremy Pruitt's red-hot team in the coming days. The Vols will travel well.

Think there's a shot at us going to the Outback Bowl as well since we're 7-5 and most of the projections have 7-5 Texas A&M going. Both our fanbase and A&M travel well, so either could get picked.

Here's the final SEC finishing order, for reference:

1. LSU 12-0
2. Georgia 11-1
3t. Alabama 10-2
3t. Florida 10-2
5. Auburn 9-3
6t. Tennessee 7-5
6t. Texas A&M 7-5
6t. Kentucky 7-5

9t. Miss State 6-6
9t. Mizzou 6-6 (not eligible)
11t. South Carolina 4-8
11t. Ole Miss 4-8
13. Vanderbilt 3-9
14. Arkansas 2-10

So basically, it's going to be us, A&M, and Kentucky in contention for the same bowls and the better bowls will never pick Kentucky over UT or A&M.

Btw, if you're looking for a good laugh, check out these awful projections from "College Football News." They have us in the Liberty Bowl (LOL) and have no SEC teams in the Music City Bowl, instead giving UAB the nod. That seems far-fetched to me. They give Kentucky the nod over us in the Gator Bowl, and I can't imagine the Gator Bowl picking them over us.

I'd prefer Indiana over Michigan or Wisconsin. Just wish it weren't the Liberty Bowl. If we could get that matchup in Nashville of FL, it would be the perfect end to the season.

I thought the bowls don’t get to pick.

Seems like the SEC slots the teams where they want them.

I hope college football news is right.

Why would we care about the payout?

We don’t get the money right?

Doesn’t the SEC get the bowl money, and then distributes it evenly amongst all Conference members?

Indiana or Louisville are teams that I think we would crush. I'd be fine playing either.

Iowa State is one of those teams I never want to play because they always seem to be a tough out.

Michigan would be an extremely interesting matchup and I don't think we are as outmatched as some seem to believe.

I'd be happy with either Indiana, Iowa State, or Minnesota in a Florida bowl or Music City.

I know some want Penn State or Michigan, but I fear that wouldn't be an even matchup. Both Penn State and Michigan would be more than 2 TD favorites according to Sagarin. Whereas Iowa State would be ~ 6 pt favorite, Minnesota a ~5 pt favorite, and we might be favored by 1 point over Indiana.

I understand the rationale for wanting to play a team that we feel confident in beating but I think wanting to avoid a challenge is such a bad mentality to have. I would like to watch how we play against a Michigan or a Penn State to see just how much we have actually improved since the beginning of the season.

I want Michigan, I don't want to back down. We are going up folks. We get them, put in 100% in preparation and scheme. Our coaching is WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!
Take down Michigan, and ride the off season high and mighty, land some bad ass cruits!
You're the guy who shoots 79 at the local muni and is ready to play Bethpage Black from the back tees.

I think Bama's loss knocked us out of a Florida bowl
Only way that is true is if they fall below a NY6 bowl by being out of the top 12. Not gonna happen. May push us into contention for a bowl we don't belong in, Citrus. If AL, AU & FL make it to NY6 then the Citrus has to choose between us and A&M. Citrus actually gets to choose as opposed to group of 6. Who knows. All depends on how many SEC wind up in the big bowls.

I want the gator bowl...only game on Jan 2 at 7pm so everybody would be watching..
UT vols.. vs Michigan wolverines....be a big draw I believe
Yes, we need a team like Michigan. A win or competitive loss vs higher ranked/traditional team, would help some of the narative that we've not really played anyone of stature during our win streak... Wouldn't mind TX vs UT game, except TX bowl in winter not desirable

whatever that means LOL I'm assuming you are some snob golfer.
You wanna play Indiana for a guaranteed win? Not challenge us as a team, grow a pair.

Yes .Absolutely, I want a win more than a "good matchup" vs Michigan or Penn St..this year.

as the "snob golfer".........only a snob if you can't back it up. I can. ;)

8-5 looks better than 7-6, but I think we'd hang with Michigan especially.

Yeah I want to play someone that people perceive as better. If we play Indiana who isn't bad some will say they were no real test. I don't see anything about Michigan that scares me, bring them on. I don't see why that A@M would get picked before Tennessee when both teams are going in different directions. Tennessee is on a winning streak and the aggies have struggled big time down the stretch. We would travel much better than them this year. If not Michigan bring on Penn St. GBO!

But if we played them, they would have zero motivation and our players will stomp on your head to whip your tail. So I'd still pick us to get the dub. Bowls are more about who wants to be there and motivation.

So YOU are the type of guy who wants to punch below his weight rather than take on a worthy opponent. With our first bowl game in years.
If you allow yourself to learn rather than be a snob, here you go golf boy:
No risk, no reward.

Kinda like playing Northwestern a few years ago vs playing Nebraska, though any good matchup is great. Nebraska fans traveled to music city...not sure Michigan fans would really fool w/ gator bowl.
